Gus Hansen took down first place in the FullTiltPoker.com Poker Million IX in London. The first place win earned the Danish superstar a cool $1 million prize, bringing his lifetime tournament winnings to almost $9 million. The Poker Million, one of Europe’s most widely televised tournaments, was shown on Sky Sports HD.

The star-studded 48 player invitational shoot-out tournament had the following players make it to the finals out of six heats: the legendary Howard Lederer, high stakes standout Patrick Antonius, WSOPE winner James Bord, Barny Boatman, and Tony Bloom. These top pros were joined by Full Tilt online qualifiers Gary Penikent and Seth Webber.

Hansen knocked out 3 opponents at the final table, Lederer, Webber, and Boatman, to get it heads up.  Hansen and Bloom went at it heads up briefly, before Hansen raised with A8 then called Bloom’s shove. Bloom flipped over A6, Hansen’s A8 held up and he took the title.

This marks the end of a great year for Gus Hansen, who also won a WSOP Europe bracelet recently to the tune of $469,000.

Next year will be the 10th edition of the Poker Million, and the tournament director Eddie Hearn promises that there will be some big surprises in store for Poker Million X!
