Greg “FBT” Mueller wins WSOP event #33 - $10,000 Limit Hold’em

Greg “FBT” Mueller wins WSOP event #33 - $10,000 Limit Hold’em

Posted on 24 June 2009 at 10:06 pm EDT by Jack Sawyer | Permalink

Greg Mueller’s name is very familiar to this blog. Numerous times FBT has made it deep in many online tournaments, particularly in the FTOPS. But this time he took it down in the real world too.

Mueller, who is an ex professional hockey player, is no stranger to WSOP final tables. His first WSOP cash came way back in 2003, and he has fallen short of a bracelet twice already; once when he lost in HU to Steve Billarakis in the 2007 WSOP, who made history at the time by becoming the youngest WSOP bracelet ever, and another time in the 2008 WSOP when he lost HU to Philip Tom.

2009 turned out to be his year though.

Event #33’s final table was varied, and included one bracelet winner: Daniel Alaei. Team PokerStars Chad Brown also made it to the final table. And Matt Hawrilenko, who many believe is the most complete Limit Hold’em player alive today.

Greg Mueller navigated to all the pitfalls in this event, and emerged victorious from the 185-player field. Limit Hold’em fields are generally much much smaller than NLHE fields, and chock-full of people who know what they are doing. Just take a look at the full cash list at the bottom of this post to see what I mean.

Mueller finally took the monkey off his back. The saying goes that the first one is always the most difficult one: the biggest hump you must jump over. Hopefully this opened the door to many more WSOP bracelets for Greg “FBT” Mueller, and also for Pat Pezzin who came in second, in his 4th final table. Everything comes to those who wait, mr. Pezzin.
