Ever since Chris Moneymaker won the World Series of Poker Main Event in 2003, no-limit hold’em has taken over as the most popular poker game in the world. While this probably won’t change any time soon, fixed-limit games are making a bit of a comeback, as seen by the new $3000-6000 limit hold’em table on Full Tilt Poker.
The table is named “IHateJuice” after the Full Tilt Poker player with the handle “IHateJuice” who has made over $1,000,000 in 2010 alone from fixed-limit hold’em. Most of his profits from 2010 have come from the $2000-4000 fixed-limit hold’em tables on Full Tilt Poker against top name professionals like Patrik Antonius and the person many consider the best all-around poker player in the world, Phil Ivey.
The “IHateJuice” table plays with blinds at $1500 and $3000, and bets at $3000 and $6000. The table is six-handed, but has a special reserved seat for the player “IHateJuice” in a manner similar to how other tables have reserved seats for certain players, usually big-name professionals.
The way the table came to be shows how much pull the big players on Full Tilt Poker have on getting things they want. While “IHateJuice” was playing Phil Ivey earlier in the month, the two began to talk about playing higher with bets at $3000-6000. Then on Monday, the $3000-6000 fixed-limit table was showing up in Full Tilt Poker’s lobby.
While fixed-limit games have less dynamic betting structures than the more popular no-limit or pot-limit games, they play very big. A general rule of thumb to compare a fixed-limit structure with a no-limit or pot-limit structure is to divide the big bet of the fixed-limit game by four, and that would be the big blind in a comparable no-limit or pot-limit game. So a $100-200 fixed-limit game plays about as big as a $25/50 blind no-limit hold’em game would.
Using this rule of thumb, the $3000-6000 game will play similar to a no-limit or pot-limit game with blinds at $750/1500. Since the largest no-limit and pot-limit games are spread at $500/1000 at the current time, that makes this $3000-6000 fixed-limit hold’em game the highest stakes online game available.
