Almost 600 players ponied up a cool $1050 to do battle in UBOC Event 8 Deepstack No Limit Hold’Em. The event was played shorthanded and was hosted by 2009 WSOP bracelet winner Eric Baldwin. Better known as “basebaldy”, the UB pro donated $200,000 to his former college baseball team earlier this year. The Ultimate Bet Online Poker Championship is Cereus’ answer to the booming FTOPS and WCOOP series hosted by Full Tilt and PokerStars respectively.

The runners did battle on the electronic felt for half a day before DUHDAISY took Event 8 down for $134,000. Big scores are no surprise to the man behind the flower, Jeremy Fitzpatrick. This Spring, Fitzpatrick took home first prize of $83,000 in the PokerStars $250k . The South Carolina native, playing under the handle daisyxoxo on Full Tilt Poker, continued his scorching tournament streak by taking down the $1k Monday in June to the tune of $77,500.

Runner-up dannyills is no slouch though. He has nearly $1,000,000 in winnings across UB, PokerStars, and Full Tilt Poker. His $82,000 score in this event bested his previous biggest score in the Cereus $200,000 Guaranteed by over $50,000.

The fifth installment of UBOC has been quite a success. Attendance has been impressive despite the stronghold PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker have on the online poker market. The $530 Deep Stack Event on August 25 hosted by Mark Seif and the $1050 Championship hosted by Phil Hellmuth are two highlights remaining on the UBOC schedule. The UBOC Championship is especially intriguing thanks to the Monster Stack format. It will be interesting to see how players adapt with chip stacks that are incredibly deep by tournament standards.
