Cereus Network Adds Security Tokens
posted on 2 December 2010 by

In an attempt to keep up with competitors such as Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars, the two Cereus Network poker rooms, UB and Absolute Poker, have released security tokens for patrons of the two sites.

Security tokens are the newest layer of defense for poker players’ accounts. They are physical devices used to log in to an account. With the push of a single button, the token provides a single-use dynamic number for players to enter on top of entering their password. This means that each time a player logs in, a new number will be generated.  Once a player links a security token with his or her account, they will need the token’s randomly generated number to log-in. The devices are extremely helpful in deterring would be hackers from compromising players’ accounts by creating the need to physically be in possession of the token to gain access.

The token is a big step forward for the sites, which were marred with security issues such as the “superuser” scandal, in which players were able to see their opponents’ hole cards.

US players can purchase a security token for 6500 Points from either site’s store, under the Security tab. Canadian players (and other players outside the US) can purchase the tokens for 9300 Points.
