The PokerStars SCOOP 2010 Event #20 is in the books! Many dreams came true, and others got shattered, in what was an awesome display of tournament magnificence.

As we know, each SCOOP event is broken down into 3 tourneys, with each one catering to a different audience in terms of buy-in. Today’s events had the following buy-ins: $22 for the Low Buy-in tournament, $215 for the Medium Buy-in tournament, and $2,100 for the Highest Buy-n tournament. The games in question today were NLHE Freezeout 2-day events.

L
We begin with the low buy-in tournament. Today’s event had a guaranteed prize pool of $500,000, which is an extreme amount when you consider that the buy-in for this event was $20+2. Despite drawing 21,481 hopefuls into the mix, they did not exceed the prize pool, which meant that there was a fair bit of overlay in this particular tourney. And if there is something that tourney players love, that would be overlay. Besides heaping oodles of Red Bull, of course.

But don’t let the buy-in fool you, as it’s possible that this might have been one of the toughest tourneys that PokerStars has hosted this year. That will change with upcoming Sundays events though. The reason is that since there are so many entrants, the average player is going to be matched up against so many unknowns that it’s impossible to figure out how everyone pays in time. So, theoretically, you’d have to play close to the standard lines, and this may or may not result in early exits.

3,600 out of its 20,000+ entrants got something for their troubles. But all eyes were of course on the final table. Action on the final table was fast and furious, with heads rolling at a comparatively quick rate. As soon as the 4th place finisher, TRAANKKA, got knocked out, the remaining players discussed a deal (because TRAANKKA was the only one that would oppose this). The accepted deal was as follows:

Spoli4tor: $36,500.92
grandslamsal: $30,000.00
gamma21: $28,179.08

$10,000 was left on the table for the winner.

The action continued on a brisk pace. Just 4 hands after the 3rd place finisher got the bad news, HU was already over. This was the hand that ended it all:

PokerStars No-Limit Hold’em, 22 Tournament, 800000/1600000 Blinds 200000 Ante (2 handed) – Poker-Stars Replayer from Poker Hands Replayer

Spoli4tor (t178785740)

gamma21 (t36024260)

Preflop:

Spoli4tor bets t3200000, gamma21 raises to t35824260 (All-In), Spoli4tor calls t32624260

Flop: (t72048520) A, 5, 7 (2 players, 1 all-in)

Turn: (t72048520) 4 (2 players, 1 all-in)

River: (t72048520) 9 (2 players, 1 all-in)

Total pot: t72048520

Results:

Spoli4tor had Q, Q (one pair, Queens).

gamma21 had 10, 10 (one pair, tens).

Outcome: Spoli4tor won t72048520

And just like that, Spoli4tor rode the heat wave of cards on the final table, and emerged as the last man standing out of a 5-figure field, with a 5-figure payday. Quite a feat in any case, so congrats to all who participated!

M
The medium buy-in event of 2010 SCOOP #20 was a $200+15, which is fairly standard for when it comes to large online tournaments. 8,266 hopefuls showed up for this one. With a prize pool that was guaranteed at $2,000,000, the generated buy-ins fell just short of covering it and therefore this tourney also had excellent overlay.

Among all the hopefuls that got into this tournament lurked many sharks, undoubtedly attracted by the rather large first prize worth $290,000. Among the many talented individuals that participated in this tournament were a host of usual suspects such as FTR’s own busto_soon and a whole array of PokerStars pro’s which included Grayson “Spacegravy” Physioc, Victor Ramdin, USCphildo, Dustin “Leatherass9″ Schmidt and Noah “Exclusive” Boeken. Each and every single one of these guys is an accomplished tourney vet, and they were literally a dime a dozen in this particular tourney, so despite the buy-in not being ultra high you could count on that it would have been a very tough tourney to win.

After VOZNI from Moscow got eliminated in 3rd place, gutshtallin and jakehekejnr discussed a potential deal. It was agreed upon then that gutshtallin would take home $238,884 and jakehekejnr $230,315, despite the stacks being desperately unequal at this point. They would duke it out for the remaining $40,000 from the prize pool.

Oh, and everyone’s favorite high stakes player Barry Greenstein made a cameo appearance in the tourney, and was the final table host. Talk about special!

The final hand went down as follows:

PokerStars No-Limit Hold’em, 215 Tournament, 300000/600000 Blinds 75000 Ante (2 handed) – Poker-Stars Replayer from Poker Hands Replayer

jakehekejnr (t70159116)

gutshtallin (t12500884)

Preflop:

jakehekejnr bets t1200000, gutshtallin raises to t12425884 (All-In), jakehekejnr calls t11225884

Flop: (t25001768) 9, A, 3 (2 players, 1 all-in)

Total pot: t25001768

Results:

jakehekejnr had K, Q (one pair, fives).

Outcome: jakehekejnr won t25001768

And jakethehekejnr took home the additional $40,000 with this beautiful hand. That’s an additional car for the rest of us, you know? Care to take us for a ride? Oh, and congrats!

H
The highest buy-in event of the 2010 SCOOP #20 clocked in at a hefty $2,100 per seat. Accordingly, fewer people showed up to duke it out for this bracelet. But you know exactly where this is going. If the low buy-in tourney had a tough field, and the medium buy-in tourney had a tougher field, this one had an OMG toughest field the likes of which you just don’t see often. This particular event only drew 1,088 participants, but it should be regarded as a gathering of the who is who in poker today. To get an idea of what we are rambling about, here are 5 names taken from the pool at random: t soprano; zangbezan24; IV. Geoffrey; djk123; and finally, gp333. These are all guys who are widely considered to be at the top of the game, and they were all together, duking it out for this specific bracelet.

Once at the final table, the action was slow and deliberate. It did not help that the blinds were very shallow compared to the stacks, meaning that everyone was playing very deepstacked poker.

These players knew each other and played each other well. All in all, it took upwards of 4 hours for play to conclude at the final table, with close to half of that going to the HU battle alone.

The final hand was as follows:

PokerStars No-Limit Hold’em, 2100 Tournament, 40000/80000 Blinds 10000 Ante (2 handed) – Poker-Stars Replayer from Poker Hands Replayer

sms9231 (t9141513)

JotaGran49 (t1738487)

Preflop:

sms9231 bets t160000, JotaGran49 calls t80000

Flop: (t340000) J, 6, 10 (2 players)

JotaGran49 checks, sms9231 checks

Turn: (t340000) K (2 players)

River: (t3476974) 5 (2 players, 1 all-in)

Total pot: t3476974

Results:

sms9231 had 5, K (two pair, Kings and fives).

JotaGran49 had K, 7 (one pair, Kings).

Outcome: sms9231 won t3476974

Like true gladiators they fought leaving it all on the field. It’s almost saddening that someone had to lose, but alas, that is the way it goes. sms9231 knew how to exploit the opposition, and took down one of the most prestigious tournaments that will run during this whole year in the process despite not being the chipleader during the whole HU match. Congrats!

A big round of applause to everybody who participated, and keep this in mind: if you did not win, or even cash, today, there is always tomorrow and the day after that. Keep trying, because one of these days Victory will be yours to savor!

Any dedicated Sit & Go players on PokerStars will probably already be familiar with the Battle of the Planets leaderboard. This celestial contest rewards the most effective S&G players every week, paying out thousands of dollars to the site’s top players. Divisions named after the Solar System’s planets are assigned to different levels of tournament, so even low stakes grinders have a chance to win some serious cash. For once, there are also equal prizes for casual players, thanks to the High and Low Orbit distinction.

For two weeks, PokerStars are switching the Battle of the Planets contest into overdrive. From November 8 – 21, all leaderboards across the entire promotion will benefit from added cash. Every prize pool is doubled, making it even more rewarding to be a small-scale tournament expert.

The buy-in of a particular S&G indicates which division it falls into. At the bottom of the scale is the Mercury bracket, containing tournaments from $1 – $2.99. There are eight divisions in total, each named after a planet, with the gas giant Jupiter at the top of the tree. Any Sit and Go that costs $300 or more to enter will contribute points towards the Jupiter leaderboard.

Every division has its leaderboard cleft in two. The Low Orbit option caters to the casual player and allows the quality recreational poker-heads to compete for their own prize pools. Meanwhile, the High Orbit area allows true grinders to outdo their opponents in style. In the Low Orbit section you receive points for the first 20 S&Gs you play per week. Once you’ve finished your 20th, the total points are totted up and counted as your leaderboard score. You then have the opportunity to play up to four more 20 tournament blocks, the highest of which will count as your weekly score. Once you exceed 100 tournaments you are officially part of the High Orbit set. You can now complete unlimited blocks of 100 S&G tournaments, with the highest scoring collection counting for your official score. Satellites, heads-up, Double or Nothing, and tournaments of more than 40 players do not count – but everything else is fair game.

The amount of money you receive for your success depends on which division you are in and which position on the leaderboard you finish. You are permitted to place on more than one leaderboard. First place on both Orbits receive the same prize, which in the Mercury division is $150. This division has a total weekly prize pool of $1,500, distributed between players from 1st to 40th in both Orbits. Over in the gargantuan Jupiter division, both leaderboard victors receive $1,500. The remaining $7,000 in prize money is shared between 2nd to 5th in both Orbits. These prizes are already well worth winning, but during this special promotional period, all of them are doubled!

The top 10 finishers on each weekly leaderboard have the chance to make even more money. They will all be entered into the monthly $50,000 Battle of the Planets freeroll. On the last Sunday of every month at 14:40 ET, a few hundred players will get together to compete for a huge prize pool.

This special Battle of the Planets celebration could be incredibly lucrative for a few skilled players. If anyone manages to break the overall record for any leaderboard, they will receive 10 times the 1st place amount for that week. For Mercury level players that could mean a cool $1,500, Venus players have $5,000 to play for, and high-stakes Jupiter record-breakers stand to net a huge $15,000. Both Low Orbit and High Orbit leaderboards have their own records to break. If more than one person exceeds the record in the same week, then only the highest scorer will get the money. If there’s a tie, the cash will be shared equally.

The records to beat are as follows:

Low Orbit

Mercury ELIAAEL 725
Mars justnutty 694

A lot has changed atop the PokerStars monthly tournament leaderboard over the last week, as many of the top ten contenders have fallen out of site. Last week’s leader ace_cider fell all the way back to 48th place this week, being replace at the top by grebnrets86, who had a 4000+ chip week. One of the few people to keep pace this week was pino1234 who remains in second place just 500 chips away from the leader.

Four more newcomers to the leaderboard this week are 00psiedaisy, ramondemon77, jkelsey, and eidur888. None of these players were even in the top 100 just seven days ago, however with great weeks of play from all four, they now are sitting in the third to sixth place spots respectively.

In seventh place this week is swooshdog4 who fell three places from a fourth place perch last week. Being just over 650 points behind grebnret86 in first place however means a great week could have swooshdog4 in any of the higher spots on the ladder. Directly behind swooshdog4 is Zackattak13, who is obviously looking to make it two in a row after winning the leaderboard competition last month. With an impressive seven day run Zackattak13 could very well overcome the 700 point deficit to reel in the current leader. Moving from the 17th spot last week into the top ten is radfrobot, who now sits in the ninth place spot, just 100 points behind Zackattak13. After landing in the fifth place spot last week, WoodBrave is now clinging onto the last place in the top ten list, just 16 chips away from being knocked down to eleventh place.

With the month of March nearly half over, the real contenders are beginning to emerge, however with twenty days remaining and less than 1000 points separating first and tenth place, anybody could make a big move and dethrone the leader of the week.

The top 10 as of March 10, 2009 looks like this:

1. grebnrets86 – 5599.22 chips
2. pino1234 – 5496.78 chips
3. 00psiedaisy – 5286.25 chips
4. ramondemon77 – 5219.81 chips
5. jkelsey – 5104.93 chips
6. eidur888 – 4938.06 chips
7. swooshdog4 – 4933.80 chips
8. Zackattak13 – 4868.73 chips
9. radfrobot – 4756.60 chips
10. WoodBrave – 4694.02 chips

As the month of February came to an end, no one could catch up to Zackattak13 who picked up nearly 1000 chips on the PokerStars Monthly Tournament Leaderboard in the last four days to secure the first place finish. Zackattak13 received $5000 from PokerStars for his victory this month. BruceWizayne managed to bring in almost 1500 chips in the last four days of the month, which shot him from seventh place all the way into the second place position, picking up $3000 in prize money. Bringing in the $2000 third place prize was OLD TIME GIN, who held onto the third place position nearly the entire last half of the month.

With a slow finish to the month, 1$ickDisea$E slid from a second place seat into fourth in the last half of a week, but it would still be good enough to earn him a $1000 prize. Another big mover in the last few days of February was D1rtyR1v3r, who brought in over 1000 chips in the last four days to win the $750 fifth place prize. With an impressive three final tables in the last four days, piloteg came flying from outside the top 100 players to take down sixth place in the leaderboard race, which would be good enough for $500.

After spinning the wheels for the last few weeks of the month, ob_1_cannoli continued to slide and ended in 7th place, which would bring in a $400 prize. THE_ALPACA also continued to slide, eventually ending with a $350 prize for the 8th place finish. Another slow finisher, baneris, ended up in ninth place after starting the month at the top of the leaderboard. The ninth place finish however was still good enough for $300 in prize money. Rounding out the top 10 was Patrolman35 who held steady at that position for the entire last week of the month and earned the $250 tenth place prize.

For the players who finished in 11th-25th place, the prize money would slip to $200. The prize money would slide once again to $150 for all of those players who ended the month in 26th-50th. The players who rounded out the top 100 received $100 for their efforts, while the 101st-200th place players received $50.

Just three days into March, it is ace_cider who is out to an early lead with just under 3500 chips already. Close behind the leader is pino1234, who has already shot up nearly 3400 chips. Rounding out the top three so far is StefanProdan who sits just over 400 chips behind the leader with 3073. Be sure to come back next week to see what the standings look like as the race for March begins to heat up.

The complete top 10 so far for March looks like this:
1. ace_cider – 3499.24 chips
2. pino1234 – 3377.56 chips
3. StefanProdan – 3073.12 chips
4. swooshdog4 – 2848.43 chips
5. WoodBrave – 2820.15 chips

With just four days left in the month, the PokerStars monthly leaderboard’s top positions could still go either way. With slightly more than 1000 points separating first and tenth place, a big day could still move anybody into a much different position. Not a lot has changed since last week as far as names go, as there is only one that has dropped out of the top ten in the last seven days. DESS66 slipped from ninth place last week to eleventh currently, while Patrolman35 moved up six places and now sits in the last spot of the top ten.

Zackattak13 was the big mover of the week, as he shot from eighth place into the leader position, making him one of the favorite to take home the top prize at the end of the month. Trailing Zackattak13 by just sixty chips however is last week’s leader 1$ickDisea$E, who could still make a move in the last few days and take down the first prize. Holding onto the third place position from last week was OLD TIME GIN, who now sits 300 chips out of first. A big win in the closing days of the month however could easily move OLD TIME GIN up into the first place position.

It was a tough week for last week’s number two player baneris, who after starting the month off on a tear was completely stopped this week, picking up zero chips. He now sits in fourth place, 400 chips out of first. Despite the dead week, baneris is still close enough to pull out an upset at the last minute. Moving into the fifth place spot, from seventh last week, is ob_1_cannoli who may be a long shot for first but still has the chance to move up a few positions and pick up a lot more prize money. Just 200 points back of ob_1_cannoli is THE_ALPACA who has been fading fast after picking up a huge amount of chips from a huge $200k+ win in a major tournament earlier in the month.

BruceWizayne also failed to pick up many points this week, moving up just 10 chips. He slipped from fifth last week back to the seventh seat this week. Also, he is far back of the top five in chips, meaning he will need a strong finish to the month if he wants to move up the standings at all. Even worse news for BruceWizayne is that both df1986 and 1ofaKind420 are both less than forty points behind him. With the scores this close, the last places in the top ten are sure to come down to the last day of the month.

Next week we will wrap up the last days of February and see who can take down the big prizes for the month. Also, we will have coverage of the first few days of March and see who can jump out to a quick lead.

The top ten with just four days left in the month looks like this:

1. Zackattak13 – 6557.83 chips
2. 1$ickDisea$E – 6493.92 chips
3. OLD TIME GIN – 6243.88 chips
4. baneris – 6161.92 chips
5. ob_1_cannoli – 5908.94 chips
6. THE_ALPACA – 5762.96 chips
7. BruceWizayne – 5582.25 chips
8. df1986 – 5569.36 chips
9. 1ofaKind420 – 5546.29 chips
10. Patrolman35 – 5434.43 chips

For the first time this month, a new leader is atop the PokerStars monthly tournament leaderboard. A slow week for baneris resulted in a slide from first to second after holding onto the top position for over two weeks. Meanwhile 1$ickDisea$E picked up nearly 2000 chips over the last seven days to move from fifth place into the leader position. Fueled by a second place finish in a $162 tournament, OLD TIME GIN shot from outside of the top 100 into a comfortable third place seat.

Two more players who came out of nowhere this week were BruceWizayne and df1986. After being out of the top 100 last week, BruceWizayne picked up a ton of chips and now sits in fourth place, just 10 chips out of a top three position. df1986 also came out of nowhere and is now just four chips behind BruceWizayne. Sitting in sixth this week, just 35 points back of fifth, is THE_ALPACA who is riding a high streak after taking down a major tournament for over $200k ten days ago.

Last week’s second place player ob_1_cannoli also had a slow week, slipping all the way back to seventh place. DESS66 logged a much better week, picking up over 1500 chips and moving from 25th to 8th place. 1ofaKind420 picked up a similar amount of chips and also made a move from 28th to 9th place on the leaderboard. Yet another player to come flying from outside the top 100 this week was MickBt23, who is now rounding out the top 10 players with 5175 chips.

The race has become far closer than last week, as baneris looked to be running away with it and is now being sucked in by the others. Less than 100 chips now separate fourth and seventh place, so anybody could make a big move with ten days left in the month. The top ten race will come down to the wire as well, as there is slightly over 1000 chips separating 1$ickDisea$E in first and MickBt23 in tenth. With some big movers this week, nobody’s place is safe and each chip will make a big difference at the end of the month.

The top 10 looks like this with ten days left in February:

1. 1$ickDisea$E – 6185.68 chips
2. baneris – 6161.92 chips
3. OLD TIME GIN – 5583.07 chips
4. BruceWizayne – 5573.15 chips
5. df1986 – 5569.36 chips
6. THE_ALPACA – 5534.22 chips
7. ob_1_cannoli – 5491.50 chips
8. DESS66 – 5344.53 chips
9. 1ofaKind420 – 5318.78 chips
10. MickBt23 – 5175.87 chips

The top ten of the PokerStars monthly leaderboard changed almost completely over the past week, with only one person from last week remaining in the top ten. baneris held onto the first place spot from last week and with 5968.67 chips, remains over 750 points ahead of the closest contender. New to the second place position was ob_1_cannoli, who moved up over 30 places since last week and now sits nearly 500 points ahead of the third ranked player. That third ranked player is THE_ALPACA who took down the Sunday Million on the weekend for over $200k. That win alone launched him out of nowhere on the leaderboard into third place.

BiffyClyro2, who sat outside the top 100 a week ago also had a great week and moved into fourth place just behind THE_ALPACA. 1$ickDisea$E picked up over 3000 chips over the last seven days and now sits comfortably in fifth place, ready to make a move. Meanwhile, burns1986 jumped ten places during the week and is in sixth place right behind 1$ickDisea$E.

The seventh to tenth places this week are hotly contested, with less than 100 chips separating the four players. In seventh is ZZSER who is yet another player to make a huge move over the week, while Dany1984 sits just 15 points behind in eight. In ninth place this week, just four points being Dany1984 is B3rgmann, while RunniN-Scare rounds out the top ten.

While fourth to tenth place is still a tight race, somebody will have to make a move over the next week to stop baneris from running away with it. Check back next week to see if anybody can cut the lead close, or if it will continue to grow as the month nears its end.

The top 10 this week looks like this:

1. baneris – 5968.67 chips
2. ob_1_cannoli – 5220.64 chips
3. THE_ALPACA – 4777.00 chips
4. BiffyClyro2 – 4632.99 chips
5. 1$ickDisea$E – 4469.36 chips
6. burns1986 – 4201.13 chips
7. ZZSER – 4091.57 chips
8. Dany1984 – 4076.88 chips
9. B3rgmann – 4072.17 chips
10. RunniN-Scare – 4007.64 chips

As the month of January closed out, so did the monthly tournament leaderboard race on PokerStars. In the end it came down to the wire, but not much changed in the last few days of the month. SpaceyFCB held onto his place at the top and took down the $5000 first prize offered up by PokerStars with just over 8700 chips. Also standing strong was VerySexual, who locked up second place with over 8000 chips and took home the $3000 second place prize. Rounding out the top three was AJinOK, who pushed hard late but couldn’t overtake VerySexual and had to settle for a $2000 reward.

Picking up $1000 for a fourth place finish was buller00, who also held onto his place over the last 4 days of the month. The fifth place finisher was one of the only big surprises at the end of the month, as DESS66 surged from the mid-thirties to fifth place, picking up nearly 1500 chips in the last four days of the month. For his efforts he received $750 in prize money from PokerStars. blumenkind53 and BluNTzz549 took home $500 and $400 respectively, as they finished up in sixth and seventh place. Rounding out the top 10 were jonyctt, TheLipoFund, and kekec24 who won $350, $300, and $250 for their efforts this month.

The players finishing in 11-25 places would all take home $200, while the pay dropped to $150 for the players in 26-50. The amounts continued to drop, but players rounding out the top 100 all received $100 dollars, while $50 went to the people who finished in 101-200 places.

The top 10 at the end of the month looked like this:

1. SpaceyFCB – 8706.92 chips ($5000)
10. kekec24 – 6396.40 chips ($250)

Meanwhile, huztlerCrew sits nearly 400 points back in third place while Indigo is sitting in fourth, 350 more points behind. Filling out the top five is ih8money who is nearly 1000 chips behind the leader already. However, there is still nearly 4 weeks left in the month of February and all players still have plenty of time to move up the rankings and capture some of the top prizes at the end of the month.
