If there is one tournament that any poker player would like to go deep in, without a doubt it would be the main event. The 2008 WSOP Main Event saw the numbers jump back up from last year, with 6,844 entrants, and awarding one lucky player with an astounding $9,119,517. Currently, there are still 23 hopefuls left to be called a world champion, but unfortunately it will not be Aaron Gordon.

Aaron Gordon, known as Toadstool on the FTR forums, started playing online poker in February of 2005. You could find him working at his fun hobby in the $6 sit and go’s on Party Poker. His poker career began as a struggle, not being able to get much from his $100 deposit. However, 3 years later, the 21 year old from Brighton, England is now known to beat high stake online cash games and just won $257,334 for his 24th place finish in the main event. I think he figured something out.

Gordon had quite the ride in the 2008 Main Event. He found himself consistently near the top of the leaderboard after day 2, increasing his stack each day. When day 6 began, he sat in 6th chip position with over 3.3 million and only 79 players remaining. Day 6 was a roller coaster ride for Gordon, who was all-in multiple times but survived to Day 7 as a short stack, with 1.7 million in chips and just 27 players remaining. He commented on the FTR forum’s, “I played really bad today, going to have to play fast tomorrow, build a stack or bust!!” If you want to look over the FTR thread that followed Aaron’s main event progress, click here!

He couldn’t get much going on Day 7, and here is the final hand that ended his main event, taken from the WSOP live updates: Aaron Gordon limped into the pot as did Jason Riesenberg. Darus Suharto then made it 330,000 from the button and the blinds stepped aside. Gordon then announced a reraise to 900,000, Riesenberg folded, and Suharto moved all in. Gordon put his last 735,000 into the middle to make the call. Gordon: Suharto: The board ran out to eliminate Aaron Gordon in 24th place for $257,334 in prize money.

$257k is a very healthy amount to win in a poker tournament, but I imagine Aaron and every player who is eliminated getting this deep in the main event has to feel some pain. From everyone at FTR, congratulations to Aaron “Toadstool” Gordon!

Rich “nutsinho” Lyndaker has been known to be one of the toughest players on FTR, and now he is very close to his largest payday ever! He has outlasted 799 other players and now sits as the chip leader of the final table in event 46, $5,000 shorthanded.

Day 2 ended perfectly for Rich Lyndaker as he was able to get the final elimination. Rich raised to 65,000 from utg, and was called by Edward Ochana from mp. It was folded to Will Failla in the big blind who moved all-in for 250,000. Rich then announced that he too was all-in, and Ochana mucked TT face up. Failla turned over AKo which was miles behind Lyndaker’s AA. No help came on the board, and Failla was eliminated in 7th place, one short from the final table. This added to Rich Lyndaker’s already massive stack and set the tone for the start of the final 6! Rich and the other 5 players were very relieved as this hand occurred at 5:30 am, and they were ready to go to bed. However, I don’t expect them to get much sleep, especially Rich who announced, “omg I can’t sleep.”

It wasn’t an easy coast to the final table for Rich. For most of Day 2 he sat on an average or short stack. Here are some memorable hands, starting around 11:00 PM. Lyndaker pushed all-in with 77 and was called by Elliot Smith who held ATo. They both missed the flop, and sweated the turn, which was another 7 for Lyndaker. This gave him a much needed double up, but he wasn’t done yet. Just a couple hands later, JJ Liu raised to 16,000 from late poisiton, and Lyndaker made it 34,000 from the small blind. Next to act, Smith shoved in his remaining stack, determined to get some of his chips back. Lui folded and Lyndaker insta-called, showing QQ. Smith flipped up AKo and they were off to the races. The board ended up being 8×9x7x 6x Qx, and Lyndaker eliminated Smith in 2 very quick hands.

Later in the day, Lyndaker was on the short stack, and got all-in with JsJd against Tom Lutz, who showed AhAc. The flop came Qd9s5d, which showed little help for Lyndaker. The turn was the 8h, giving him a gutshot straight draw, and the miracle river fell, the Td, giving Lyndaker a straight and a much needed double up. His stack had moved up to over 400,000.

Rich Lyndaker then kept adding to his stack, later getting in a big pot with Team PokerStars pro, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier. ElkY raised from the button, and Lyndaker and Jason Gray called from the blinds. They both checked a Jc8s4h flop, and ElkY bet 42,000. Lyndaker called and Gray folded. The turn came the 7s and again Lyndaker check/called for 50,000. The river was the 8d, and Lyndaker checked again. ElkY moved all-in for about 100,000 and Lyndaker called, showing AA, which was ahead of ElkY’s AJ. Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier finished in 16th place and now Rich had over 600,000. Rich Lyndaker then went on a huge rush, eliminating 4 more players, including the final elimination mentioned above.

After a marathon Day 2, which lasted over 14 hours, Day 3 and the final table resumes play today at 2:00 PM PST. This event is scheduled to be aired live on ESPN360 today, and you can watch it by clicking here.

Here are the official chip counts going into Day 3:

Richard Lyndaker 2,345,000
Joe Commisso 1,961,000
Tom Lutz 1,493,000
Sam Trickett 1,000,450
Edward Ochana 928,000
Davidi Kitai 298,000

Rich “nutsinho” Lyndaker is the strong favorite, as his specialty is shorthanded play. However, the top 3 stacks are pretty close, and anything can happen. Let’s hope Rich runs good, because here are the payouts:

1 $911,855
2 $570,551
3 $368,891
4 $245,927
5 $174,041
6 $120,693

He is already guaranteed $120k, but knowing Rich, he will be upset at anything besides $911k and the gold bracelet. Be sure to check out WSOP360 today and watch Rich take down event 46! If you can’t do that, check back to the poker news section for updates on the final table, or see the official rail thread in the FTR community, by clicking here. From everyone at FTR, good luck to Rich “nutsinho” Lyndaker!

It was back to NLH in game 8 of the gauntlet. We saw a lot of familiar faces, and a rare appearance from Xianti! In total, 21 people showed up hoping to increase their points for the season, and for one lucky donk, he did just that. If you are unsure what the Gauntlet is, check out the end of this article for information on how to register. You can play against FTR’s biggest players, for just $11 - twice per week!

As always, here is the leaderboard prior to game 8:

FTR Name - GP - Points / Change
nutsinho - 6 - 582.70 / 0
spin_md - 4 - 399.95 / 0
givememyleg - 5 - 390.42 / 0
Shifubowa - 5 - 336.44 / +2
GatorJH - 3 - 323.23 / -1
Galapogos - 3 - 299.06 / -1
kmind - 4 - 298.38 / 0
Nicovelz - 5 - 269.09 / 0
bigspenda73 - 5 - 266.59 / +3
WildBobAA - 6 - 242.32 / +2

Two people made their first top 10 appearances, spenda and wildbob in 9th and 10th. Bob has had what you could say a rough start this season, and spenda is coming off of his runner up finish to dwarfboy last game. The top 3 haven’t changed, and there isn’t much else to talk about. Nutsinho is still holding on to his massive lead and it will take someone running really well to pass him.

Moving onto the actual game, Xianti showed up and tossed a surprise bounty on nutsinho! Whoever ended up knocking him out would earn FTR gear of their choice! However, Xianti wouldn’t be given a warm welcome, as he found himself in a bad situation the very first hand:

Another week has passed, and more prizes have been given out at Ultimate Bet! Every week, Ultimate Bet awards its players with tournament credits and the chance to play heads up with a UB pro for $1,000 or more!

If you recall in last week’s article, mross01 shot up from 12th place to win the week and was scheduled to take on UB pro Mark “P0ker H0″ Kroon for $3,000. The Ultimate Bet pro’s have been on a rush as of late, winning the last 2 matches, bumping the $1,000 up to $3,000. Well, that was no different this week, and Kroon defeated mross01, keeping the streak alive and increasing next week’s prize pool! Too bad for mross01, but still a great effort and the $1,000 will be added to next Sunday’s game. P0ker H0 has been handling these top MTT pros very well!

Last Wednesday, I showed the current top 10 for the week of June 1 - June 7, and EddyTown21 was sitting in 1st place with 205.98 points. He had a great start to the week, but was by no means guaranteed the win! In second place, royalkc was behind by just one point, and others, such as scottyclark, weren’t far behind either. Could EddyTown21 hold on to the lead? Let’s have a look at the results (to view to complete top 50, check out the June 10th Archive):

scottyclark 374.27 - $4,000 Heads-Up Match
punko 281.26 - $100 TC
blunttman4200 257.79 - $100 TC
gray99 243.10 - $100 TC
krej 241.47 - $100 TC
mattpat 238.80 - $100 TC
Bugga1224 237.89 - $100 TC
shipaholic 236.17 - $100 TC
spades27 226.25 - $100 TC
travelerjbjb 220.17 - $100 TC

Just how does this guy do it? Once again, scottyclark proves his continuing dominance by winning the weekly UB MTT Leaderboard! Last week, he was sitting comfortably in 6th place with 162.05 points, and finished very strong at 374.27. 2nd place finishe, punko, was 93 points behind which was quite the lead. EddyTown21 was unable to add any points at all to his starting lead, and finished in 14th place. Other players such as blunttman4200 in 3rd, krej in 5th, and spades27 in 9th are no strangers to the top 10 either; each having a few top 10 finishes in the past. However, all eyes are on scottyclark once again! This is his 4th win in 8 weeks which is just completely sick.

With this win, scottyclark will be playing this Sunday against a UB pro (currently unknown who) for $4,000! I have to put my money on scottyclark to take home some serious cash! Congratulations to scottyclark, yet again!

Now moving on to the current week, June 8 - June 14, a new name is in the lead, with some old friends not far behind (to see the complete to 50, check out the June 11th Archive):

punko 110.87

Currently, wheresmydrew is the top dog with 209.79 points. This is the first time I have noticed him in the top 10, and 1st place is a great spot to debut in! There are also a lot of new faces, pretty much everyone except the UB destroyer, scottyclark, in 7th place. We have seen scottyclark come back from worse and win multiple weeks in a row, but for now the pressure is on wheresmydrew. Let’s see if this newcomer can hold on to his lead!

Be sure to check back next week to see the result of scottyclark’s $4,000 heads up match, and for the final results of June 8 - June 14th! Also, if you can’t wait and want to follow the action, check out the Ultimate-Bet Network page where you can find daily updated results under Poker Leaderboards.

Game 7 of the Gauntlet 7 was this past Sunday, and it was the first heads up tournament of the series! There were many people who were anticipating this event, hoping to stack their rivals! If you are unsure what the Gauntlet is, check out the end of this article for information on how to register. You can play against FTR’s biggest players, for just $11 - twice per week!

Before we get to the heads up action, let’s have a look at the lederboard before game 7 began. FTR member mcatdog just got off of his first win, and is only his second game played this season. However, he still managed to make it into the top 10:

FTR Name - GP - Points / Change
nutsinho - 5 - 521.35 / 0
spin_md - 4 - 399.95 / 0
givememyleg - 4 - 341.92 / +2
GatorJH - 3 - 323.23 / -1
Galapogos - 3 - 299.06 / -1
Shifubowa - 4 - 298.39 / +1
kmind - 4 - 298.38 / +2
Nicovelz - 5 - 269.09 / 0
drmcboy - 3 - 221.32 / -3
mcatdog - 2 - 221.17 / +15

I actually don’t know how many spots mcatdog jumped up with his win, but it’s probably a lot so I just said 15. Again there isn’t much movement and nutsinho/spin_md still have their comfortable 1st - 2nd lead over everyone else. Nothing really much to say, so let’s get to the heads up!

Game 7 started with 17 people playing, and with 17 people, that is an odd number for a heads up tournament. I expected one person to get a bye and the others play, and was delighted when I realized that person was me. However, it wasn’t long before I realized 14 other people were sitting out too. Instead of giving one person a bye, 15 people received byes and there was only one match; Spenda v meeloche.

You would have thought you were at the final table of the $10 rebuy with the railing for this heads up match, but it was just the other players watching and waiting for their turn to play. Basically, it started off as I would have guessed, with spenda (LolTrappedU) being a very agro:

Yes you do run nice, unfortunately for meeloche, who got a bad draw having to play the first match and finishing in 17th place. There were now 8 different matches to follow:

givememyleg vs kevster (sbedvek)
Wildbob vs dwarfman
spenda vs shazbox1
nutsinho vs Sykedupp (ChristaBorg)
ProZachNation vs pankfish

That pretty much sums it up for Wildbob so far this season. That match lasted a whole 5 hands, and dwarfman was the first to advance.

In spenda’s second match he drew shazbox, who he knew nothing at all about. That is probably because this was his first ever Gauntlet game - welcome to the jungle! However, he learned a lot early on as shax tried the ole 3 barrell bluff:
