For those unfamiliar with the “durrrr Challenge”, it was originally an online offer issued to the entire poker world (sans Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond) to play durrrr heads-up for 50,000 hands. The stipulations were players must put up $500,000 (to durrrr’s $1,500,000) and play four tables of either $200/$400 NL or PLO over the 50,000 hands. The first to accept the online challenge was Patrik Antonius, who durrrr currently leads by $779,248 after 27,185 hands. However, Antonius has not been Dwan’s most recent foe, as he has been locked in an epic battle against “Isildur1″, a European professional who has taken more than $3,000,000 off of durrrr the past few weeks. The two have been six-tabling both NL and PL for nearly 38,000 hands.

Dwan lined up three opponents to play over the past 72 hours: Marcello “luckexpress10″ Marigliano, Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies, and Sammy George. Sahamies and Marigliano both play a lot with Dwan in FullTilt’s biggest games, while George is not a professional, but an extremely wealthy business man who enjoys playing poker on the side. The first day saw Dwan and Marigliano play to a virtual stalemate. Unlike the online challenge, there was no apparent side bet for the live challenge, and only a 500 hand stipulation. In the end luckexpress won just over $22,000 before the two called it a night.

Day 2 saw a much more exciting match take place between Sahamies and Dwan, pitting two of the more aggressive young professionals in the world against each other. These two have played some crazy battles online, including a few sessions of $3,000/$9,000 PLO where each player HAD to raise and re-raise the pot before the flop. This match ended up being a bit more tame than their online wars, with durrrr finishing up just shy of $70,000.

The final day saw Sammy George get his crack versus Dwan. George and Dwan both bought in for $250,000 and agreed to play until the early hours. The first big pot of the day went to Dwan when he and George got all the money in PF for a $500,000 pot. Dwan held Pocket Aces while Sammy had AK off-suit. The board bricked out and Sammy had to reach into his very deep pockets for another $250,000 buy-in. The rest of the match saw Dwan chip away at George’s stack, who had to buy-in for another $250,000 twice before the night was out. The final hand saw Dwan flop top pair and George bottom pair. The two would get all the money in on the flop with durrrr’s hand holding, giving him a $1,000,000 stack and sending George to the rail.

Be sure to check back here for more updates if the players decide to continue their battle Friday.

With FTOPS XIV coming to a roaring finish, this past weekend was chalk-full of big buy-in huge guarantee tournaments. Both FullTilt and PokerStars completely dominated the online poker scene, as the FTOPS Main Event and the Sunday Million both cleared $2,500,000 in entry fees. Needless to say, a few lives were changed yesterday.

PokerStars was able to capitalize on the FTOPS popularity, much like FullTilt did earlier this year with the WCOOP. The Sunday Warm-Up kicked off a record-breaking day of tournaments. The Warm-Up has been flirting with the Million Dollar prize pool mark, and some thought yesterday might be the day. Unfortunately tournament goers had to settle for a “measly” $952,600 prize pool and a $149,018 first place check. Battling for the $150k was “Titantom32″ and “egor2077″. The experience edge was with Tom, as he already have 4 $50,000+ scores to his name before this final table including a win the the Sunday500. Egor2077 had not been as fortunate, as this score was by far and away the biggest cash of his short career. In the end it was a bit of a cooler, 2pr vs. 2pr, that gave egor2077 the win and $149,000:

There were big plans for the Sunday Million yesterday as PokerStars attempted to make a “landmark” event, with their biggest prize pool and number of entrants. Eventually 18,283 players entered the event, crushing previous records and creating a $3,656,600 prize pool, also a new record. What’s amazing is even with FTOPS XIV running, the Million still managed to crush every FTOPS event, easily taking the largest prize pool of the day. Like most Sunday Millions lately, this one was over before the final cards were dealt, as a big chip-chop guarantee the top 6 players at least $144,000. With only $30,000 left on the table the action was furious, and it left “Zadman5311″ with the victory and over $282,000 in cash. Below are the final table stacks, bust-out hands, and chop adjusted pay-outs:

The Sunday500 also saw a nice boost in attendance yesterday, as the tournament eclipsed 1,200 players for the first time in some while. One of the biggest names making the final table was also the first to bust in Christian “charder30″ Harder. Harder won a Bellgio Cup Event in July for over $204,000 and also took 4th in the WPT Five-Star Poker Classic in April for over $571,000. Online Harder is just as dominant. Ranked in the top-50 in the world, Harder has finished 2nd in this very event twice. His biggest victories came in the Wednesday Quarter Million and the $109r. Eventual winner “mysterio6044″ is also no stranger to success on PokerStars, as he final-tabled two SCOOP events in April, earning more than $20,000 in each. This cash appears to be the biggest of his online career.

Both apestyles and PiKappRaider are ranked ranked inside the top 100 while Govshark2 is currently a top-10 ranked online tournament professional. Apestyles’ biggest score is a 3rd place finish in the Warm-Up for $67,650 in August. Govshark2 has one six-figure score to his name, a win in the Sunday500 also in August for $100,470. PiKappRaider puts both of those scores to shame, as he has two $200,000+ scores including a win in February’s FTOPS Event #17 for $245,696 and a win in the $1M Guarantee for just over $200,000.

Taking home the title was “JRD312″ after he busted apestyles in a nice heads-up battle. He is no stranger to success himself, as this was only the 3rd biggest score of his career on PokerStars, well behind wins in the Second Chance and $109r for $86k and $92k respectively.

Closing out a strong day of tournaments on PokerStars was the Sunday Second Chance. The final major of the day attracted more than 1,500 players, surpassing the $300,000 prize pool mark in the process. After a slow start to 2009 this tournament has caught fire as of late, with huge prize pools and $50,000 first place prizes. Heads-up play came down to “vovo_leo” and “WhoGivzABuck”, two relatively unknown players who haven’t made much noise as of late. In the end WhoGivzABuck took down his biggest score ever as his K7s was able to outrun his opponents A8o for the victory:

FTOPS XIV went down swinging late last night, as the Main Event concluded at 9:11 AM EST Monday morning. Over 5,000 players ponied up the $535 entry fee, creating a massive $2,735,500 prize pool.

The tournament was hosted by FullTilt’s newest professional, Tom “durrrr” Dwan. For those living under a rock the past few years, Dwan is a high-stakes cash game professional who competes against the likes of Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonius, and Doyle Brunson on a daily basis. durrrr came into the national spotlight when he created the “durrrr Challenge”, a 50,000-hand heads-up battle with a $1,500,000 side bet. The first to take him up was Antonius, and the two have completed nearly half the necessary hands, with Dwan taking a nice lead. Dwan has also been featured on GSN’s High Stakes Poker TV show, where he battled with Barry Greenstein in playing two of the biggest pots ever recorded on television. Although he is known more for his cash game prowess, Dwan did final table the WPT Championship, taking home 4th place and over $320,000.

Joining Dwan was a strong field, including nearly 70 FullTilt Sponsored Professionals. Amongst the “pros” were former WSOP Main Event Huck Seed, multiple WSOP bracelet-holder Greg “FBT” Mueller, Isaac “Menlo” Baaron, and five-time WSOP bracelet-holder Allen Cunningham. Only five professionals made the money, with Dave Colclough’s 250th place finish being the best of the bunch. Ivy-league educated Brandon Adams finished in 356th place while rapping Jeff Madsen also made a small cash.

A bit of air was let out of the final table’s tires when the last three players decided to chop the remaining prize pool. Third place finisher Adam Junglen is no stranger to success in big poker tournaments. Heading into this final table he already had more than $500,000 in both live and online cashes, including a 6th place finish at EPT Barcelona for over $257,000 and a win in the Sunday Million back in 2007.

Congratulations goes to all 720 players who made the money in the FTOPS Main Event!

Joining Baron were 27 other FullTilt sponsored professionals. Some of the more notable pros playing were 5-time WSOP bracelet holder Allen Cunningham, Ivy-league educated high-stakes cash game player Brandon Adams, and former WSOP Main Event winner Huck Seed. Baron finished inside the money, in 64th place, earning $2,518. He was joined in the top-100 by fellow Red Pro Martin Klaeser who finished in 71st place, earning $2,190. Besides FullTilt’s professionals, there were plenty of notable players who fell just short of reaching the final table.

Scott “mastrblastr” Seiver who owns high stakes cash games and tournament both live and online, busted in 19th place. Seiver is well known for battling FullTilt pros online and winning Event #21 of the 2008 WSOP for over $755,000. Joining him in the top-20 was Alex “AJKHoosier1″ Kamberis, who in the past was a top-10 ranked tournament professional. Kamberis has a ton of big scores to his name, including a $941,735 cash for finishing 3rd in the WCOOP Main Event last year. Finishing in 14th place was high-stakes cash game professional “jcmoussasux” who is much more well known for playing nosebleed cash games than tournaments. Finishing one spot ahead of jc was “govshark2″, another top-10 ranked tournament professional who nearly won the $750k on FullTilt last year, taking 2nd for $86,739. His biggest score was a win in the PokerStars Sunday $500k for $100,470 in August.

Even with all of the bubble bust-outs, the final table still had plenty of talent to go around. Mohsin “chicagocards1″ Charania, a top-100 ranked tournament professional, busted in 5th place. The $58,000 cash was the biggest of his career, besting $40,000+ scores for 3rd place finishes in both the Super Tuesday on PokerStars and the Sunday Brawl on FullTilt. 4th place finisher, “MicahJ”, is another high-stakes cash game pro who was taking a shot at the deeper stack rebuy event. More known for his Pot-Limit Omaha prowess, MicahJ had little problem reaching the final table and banking over $81,000.

When heads-up play began, “gametime1111″ and “ambiguosity” decided upon a chop, virtually splitting the remaining $380,000 left in the prize pool. Congrats goes to the final six and all 120 players making the money in FTOPS Event #17!

A big weekend in online poker tournaments has come to an end. Bolstering tournaments across the board was the start of FTOPS XIV, FullTilt’s bi-annual tournament series. There were three events finishing up late last night, for more thorough reports on Events 8, 9, and 10, please visit the FlopTurnRiver News Section for complete write-ups on the winners.

PokerStars seemed to benefit from FTOPS XIV, as all of their major tournaments easily bested their respective guarantees yesterday. Sunday started with the $750k Warm-Up which has been obliterating its guarantee as of late. This week was no exception, as the Warm-Up once again exceeded a $900,000 prize pool, as more than 4,500 players entered the early-afternoon event.

The final three players decided upon a deal, leaving only $10,000 on the table after all was said and done. Heads-up play came down to “jackson18249″ and “DaHussstla”. The experience edge had to be with jackson18249, as he had final-tabled a major in the past, taking 3rd in the Mulligan in July for over $35,000. DaHussstla appeared unfazed by his opponent, as he was able to take down the extra $10,000 when he won the quintessential flip, AJ vs. 99:

The Sunday Million is out of the dog house for one week. For one of the few times this entire year, the Million was not chopped yesterday! That’s right, there would be a $200,000+ winner and that honor went to “Justin1836″. Making this even more special, was the fact that this was his first ever $10,000+ recorded score. Justin outlasted Nick “agriffrod” Mitchell for the win and over $236,000. Mitchell, a top-100 ranked professional, took home $173,514 for 2nd place. This was the 19th five-figure score of his career, besting his previous high cash, a $66,200 prize. Below are the final-table stacks, bust-out hands, and non-chop adjusted pay-outs:

The Sunday 500 had perhaps the best final table of any event yesterday, as Kevin “BeL0WaB0Ve” Saul made a deep run, eventually getting heads-up with Alex “BoyArgentina” Queen. Both players have had a nice amount of success online, Queen’s coming at the hands of a 2nd place finish in the Warm-Up in April for nearly $70,000. Saul has been crushing live and online tournaments for some time. He nearly won the WCOOP High-Roller Event in September, taking 3rd for over $337,000. He also won a FTOPS Event in August for over $57,000. Even with those scores, his live success has been even greater. In 2007 he won the WPT Bellagio Cup III, beating Mike Matusow heads-up for a $1,342,320 first place prize. Earlier this year he final tabled the PCA, taking 8th for $214,000.

A tough final hand gave Queen the victory and the biggest score of his career, a shade over $92,000:

The Sunday $215 rebuy had plenty of familiar faces making the final table. One of the world’s more controversial tournament professionals, Chad “lilholdem954″ Bautista, was on hand and finished in 4th place for just under $19,000. Bautista now has over $2,000,000 in cashes on PokerStars alone, including 17 $20k+ scores, most of which have come from wins in the $109r. In fact Bautista might just hold the record for wins in the $109r with a mind-boggling 16 victories. Joining him was $215r final-table resident Thorladen. Thor seems to make the final table of this event every other week, and has won it twice in the past, both times for more than $50,000. Speaking of records, this was the 11th time Thorladen has been at the $215r final table, which also must be an all-time high.

Taking home the title was “dj_ponytale”, a high-stakes tourney professional who nearly won the Sunday500 a year ago, taking second for $66,858. The $45,756 first-place check was only the 4th biggest score of his career on PokerStars, behind the Sunday500 runner-up and two scores in $320 events. Finally, top-50 ranked “rivermanl” once again made a deep run in the $215r, this time taking home 3rd place and just over $25,000.

The $200,000 guaranteed event continues to crush its guarantee, as once again the tournament easily exceeded $250,000! A former winner of the Sunday500, “hummylun”, was able to ship another Sunday major yesterday, as he won the Second Chance for just over $50,000. This score helped him cross the $500,000 plateau in earnings on PokerStars alone. In the crazy story of the week category, 3rd place finisher “Carrwreck11″ admitted to only having $22 in his account just a few days before taking down a big score yesterday.

Taking the place of the $750k Guaranteed was the $320 $1.5M Guaranteed FTOPS Event #10. For once, FullTilt nearly bested the Sunday Million on PokerStars, but ultimately fell short by just $20,000! Much like Event #8, some of the steam was taken out of the final table by a heads-up chop, handing $222k to “Jakivi” and $228k to “rakeinfools”. It’s hard to blame either of these players for making a deal, as neither had a $10,000+ score to their name on FullTilt prior to these huge cashes. That is what poker tournaments are all about, big scores and big fields.

The Sunday Mulligan continues to roll along, as the tournament saw a nice boost from FTOPS XIV, coming close to the prize pool of the Second Chance on PokerStars. Fifteen FullTilt sponsored professionals were on hand, including Stuart Paterson, Aaron Bartley, and David Pham. Making the deepest run of all the pros was Christian Kruel, who actually made the final table, before busting in 9th place for a little over $4,000.

The $500+$35 Deepstack Heads-Up Event sold out quite early, as the tournament capped off at 1,024 entrants and a $512,000 prize pool. The tournament took quite some time to finish, just over 12 hours to be exact.

There were plenty of big names on hand, including tournament host Scott Fischman. Fischman is a FullTilt sponsored professional who is best known for winning two WSOP bracelets in 2004. Fischman took down the $2k HORSE and the $1,500 NL Hold’em events, earning a combined $400,200 in the process. He tends to grind a lot of tournaments online; however, he has failed to hit a truly big score on FullTilt in the past.

Joining Fischman were 16 other FullTilt “Red Pros” including Phil Gordon, Taylor “GreenPlastic” Caby, and Huck Seed. A few of the professionals were able to make the money including Brian “Stinger88″ Hastings and Jeff Madsen who finished 38th and 81st place respectively. A few former FTOPS winners faced off in a tough Elite-Eight match-up which saw Greg “DuckU” Hobson outlast Laurence “whatariver” Houston. Dobson, a top-100 ranked tournament pro, shipped FTOPS Event #21 a year ago, taking home $87,000 for his victory. Houston took home over $137,000 for his victory last year as well, winning the $240+$16 KO Event #8 on November 10th.

The final heads-up battle came down to “willb77″ and “cczzarr” with willb77 taking home the title and just under $90,000, the biggest score of his young career.

For those unfamiliar with the series, it typically runs twice a year and contains 25 Events with different buy-ins and games. Event #1, a $200+$16 NL 6max Freeze Out completed earlier this morning. The tournament was hosted by FullTilt Professional Allen Cunningham, and had a $1,000,000 Guarantee. Cunningham was a great choice to kick-start the series, as he is widely considered one of the best poker players in the world. Supporting these arguments are five WSOP bracelets and a fourth-place finish in the 2006 Main Event where he had numerous battles with eventual champion Jamie Gold.

Cunningham was joined by 29 other FullTilt “Red Pros”, including WSOP Main Event Champion Huck Seed, two-time WSOP bracelet winner Scott Pitchman, and PLO professional Robert Williamson III. Overall 4,694 players entered the event, which meant the first event of the series failed to meet its guarantee by a wide margin. With 5,000 players needed to reach a $1,000,000 prize pool, FullTilt was forced to add $61,200 of its own money to the pot, creating a nice overlay for those who played.

A bit of steam was taken out of the final table when the four remaining players decided to chop the remaining prize pool. “s00tedj0kers89″ took the largest piece of the pie, with a $120,000 post-deal cash. Right behind him was “kev19″ who took home $115,000 after the deal was done.

Congratulations goes to the final six and all 600 players making the money in FTOPS Event #1!

The first day of November proved to be quite a big day for online poker tournaments. Those remembering to set their clocks forward did not have to wait an extra hour for the early-bird events. The Sunday Warm-Up started a big day of tournament action, and the event did not experience a Halloween hangover of any sort, as 4,747 players entered, creating a massive $949,400 prize pool.

The final table had a few familiar names, including notable cash game grinder Daniel “DCal Zone” Didech. While he appears to have had more success play cash games, he did nearly win the $55r in August, taking home 2nd place and over $10,000. Facing off with Didech for the title was “akia86″, another player without a ton of success playing tournaments on PokerStars. Unfortunately for the railbirds the two took a bit of drama out of the championship, quickly agreeing to a chip-chop once heads-up play began. With only $10,000 left to play for, the tournament ended quickly, with Didech taking the win and $138,000.

The Sunday Million continues to best its guarantee, as this week nearly 8,000 players entered online poker’s biggest weekly tournament. A few recognizable names made the final table including the top-3 finishers: “siola”, “spitznspots”, and “mizarkshzark”. Just like the Warm-Up, a chip-chop took all the air out of the sails of the Sunday Million. This time a chop occurred with SIX players remaining, guaranteeing chip-leader “Lounatic0815″ $160,000. There was still $30,000 on the table, and Siola was able to take down the 6-man SNG and take down $187,860.54 for the victory.

The Sunday $500k generally delivers one of the best final tables of the week, and yesterday’s final nine was no exception. Two huge names in online tournaments, Shaun “Shaundeeb” Deeb and Steve “Gboro780″ Gross, made the final table. Both Deeb and Gross are widely considered two of the top 10 online tournament players, and are ranked 6th and 1st respectively by an independent site. Deeb’s biggest claim to fame is winning the PokerStars TLB a few years ago, as well as winning the $109r for $75,7890 and the Super Tuesday for $81,812.50. Gross has a ton of huge scores to his name, including three six-figure scores. Gross shipped the $1M Guaranteed on FullTilt for over $275,000 in February and won a SCOOP event in April for $128,000. Unfortunately neither player was able to mount much of a charge yesterday, as Gross went out in 9th and Deeb busted in 6th. Joining this two greats was 8th place finisher “Bruno GT”, who has nearly $1,500,000 in earnings on PokerStars alone including three wins in the $109r.

PokerStars Sunday $500k Guaranteed
1,031 Entrants; $515,500 prize pool

2. w00ki3z. $64,438
3. sheckwave $48,973
4. Steve Oss $35,879
9. gboro780 $5,671

The $215 re-buy continues to rebound from a slow start earlier this year, as the tournament has been nearing the $200,000 prize pool mark for some time. Yesterday there were just enough re-buys and add-ons to make it happen, as 286 players created a $200,800 prize pool. Juan “koolkeith13″ Dixon, a solid tournament professional, finished in 5th place for just under $12,000. The $12k cash falls well short of a win in this very event last September, where he took home over $51,000 for his efforts. He is no stranger to success in re-buys, as he has 10 combined top-5 finishes in the $109r and $215r. Taking home the title and $41,164 was “HustlerGrune”, winner of the Sunday Warm-Up in May for over $118,000. This $41k and change was the 2nd biggest score of his career and helped him to eclipse over $300,000 in lifetime earnings on PokerStars.

Finishing off a solid day of tournaments on PokerStars was the $200,000 guaranteed Second Chance. Once again the tournament easily crushed its guarantee, as over 1,300 players created a $261,800 prize pool. Eventual champion, “msusyr24″, has had plenty of success on PokerStars in the past. While this was his first five-figure score, he has grinded out quite a big amount of cashes, over $718,000 to be exact. He has played nearly 40,000 tournaments lifetime, and did ship the $55r a few years ago for nearly $10,000. Runner-up “brendon1717″ barely missed the biggest score of his career, as his $34,557 cash fell just short of a $36,119 score for winning the $109r in July.

FullTilt continues to see a lot of growth in their three Sunday majors, the Brawl, $750k, and Mulligan. The Brawl has been on quite an upswing lately, especially since the guarantee was raised from $350,000 to $400,000 a few weeks ago. This past Sunday the Brawl continued its recent success, as over 2,700 players created a $549,000 prize pool, which might just be a new record. FullTilt professionals were on hand, and made a huge impact in the event as two pros, Lee Watkinson and Michael Tureniec made the final ten. While Watkinson busted out on the final table bubble, Tureniec made it all the way to heads-up play, where he faced off with “Biggest Donkey” for a $111,447 first place prize.

There were some other big names at the final table, including “ANIMAL5050″, a professional who nearly won the Sunday Mulligan in August, taking home $42,952 for a second place finish. His biggest score came in another runner-up finish, taking $60,967 in the $109r on PokerStars in February. “tedlogan19″, also known as “pokerbrat13″, took 3rd place for over $53,000. This was the 3rd biggest score of his career, behind a 2nd place finish in the Sunday $500k on PokerStars in June and a win in the $200k on FullTilt in April.

FullTilt Sunday Brawl $400k Guaranteed
7. ANIMAL5050 $12,627
8. blueszu66 $8,784
9. aka_advanced $6,588

The $750k Guaranteed saw a bit of a drop-off this week, as the tournament barely squeaked by its guarantee. 27 of FullTilt’s finest played in the event, including Scott Fischman, Isaac “Menlo” Baron, and Huck Seed. The final table was highlighted by “PureCash25″, a player with nearly $1,000,000 in cashes on FullTilt alone. He is most well-known for taking 3rd in FTOPS Event #22 last November for $262,500. Once again he found himself in 3rd place, however, after a chop he took home more than his fair share. Dustin “yogano83″ Lehman took home the biggest score of his career, $100,000 even, for finishing in 2nd place. Eventual winner “whatzthebet” only won $91,256 after the chop, but that was still more than enough to eclipse his previous career high, a $26,208 score for winning the $75k Guaranteed in April.

FullTilt Sunday $750k Guaranteed

Finishing off a big day of tournaments on FullTilt was the Sunday Mulligan. The $200,000 guaranteed event easily passed its guarantee, as 1,164 players created a $232,800 prize pool. Nearly 20 FullTilt sponsored professionals played in the event, including Jeff Madsen, Mike “Timex” McDonald, and David “The Dragon” Pham. A few names made it to the final table, including eventual winner “Frank1The1Tank”. The $52,380 cash bested his previous career high, a $34,262 score for winning the $100k “Double Deuce” earlier this year.

Both PokerStars and FullTilt manged some big days today, as every single major easily eclipsed their guarantees. The recent “upswing” in entries is a welcome sign after quite a lull following the FTOPS and WCOOP series.

The day began with the Sunday Warm-Up on PokerStars. The $215 buy-in tournament easily bested it’s guarantee, swelling to over $950,000. The Warm-Up continues to grow weekly, and has supplanted the $750k on FullTilt for the 2nd biggest tournament available to US players each week. Those taking note of the chat already know that runner-up “sizzlinbetta” is a relatively unknown player in tournaments. He mentioned numerous times to be a losing player, yet he was not only at this final table, but leading the Sunday $500k at the same time. A bit of drama was taken out of the heads-up duel, as both players quickly agreed to a chop. There was still a bit of money to be played for, and “a$$ou” took care of the final hand when he flopped top pair vs. his opponent’s underpair:

The Sunday Million saw a slight increase in action, as the tournament prize pool exceed $1,600,000 this week. The final table was flat out owned by “grifo173″, who took down the majority of the players, including the 3rd/4th place finishers in the same hand! He swiftly declined a chop heads-up, and dispatched “deoxyribo” rather quickly, taking home the title and more than $242,000 in first-place money. What is even more impressive is this score, according to most online records, was the first $5,000+ cash of his career.
A well-known PLO professional and tournament grinder, “Gavz101″, made an appearance at the final table of the Sunday $500k on Stars. In fact his biggest score came in a PLO SCOOP Event in April, where he took 3rd place for nearly $75,000. Just like that event, he fell short this week, taking 4th place for $37,672. Another big name at the final table, “mrvogt”, was even less fortunate, finishing in 7th place for $16,343. The five-figure score was the 17th of his career on Stars, which includes a 4th place finish in the Million for $68,951 last December. He has had even more success on FullTilt, winning an FTOPS Event as well as the Sunday Mulligan in 2008.

Entering heads-up play were “throwinphins” and “mlagoo”, two players with past success on PokerStars. Before reaching the final table, both players had already earned more than $600,000 in cashes on Stars, including a $315k score by mlagoo back in 2007 in what had to be a WCOOP event. Just like the Warm-Up, there was a chop in the $500k; however I was unable to record the numbers.

Two big names in online poker made it all the way down to heads-up in the $215 re-buy. “Paolo69″ and “apestyles” were set to battle it out for over $38,000 in first-place cash. Apestyles, a top-100 ranked professional, has had a few close-misses in major events, including a 5th in the Million for $57k and a 3rd in the Warm-Up for $67k. Paolo69’s resume is just as impressive, with nearly 30 $10,000+ scores to his name on PokerStars, including a massive $78,342 win of the $109r, he is no slouch himself. In the end it took a bit of a bad beat to end the tournament, leaving apestyles victorious once again:

Rounding out a solid day of tournament poker on the world’s largest poker site was the appropriately-named Sunday Second Chance. This tournament has been crushing its guarantee, and although many would like to see a change, it appears PokerStars will not return to the former $250,000 prize pool. Blair “bluf5f6″ Hinkle, winner of a WSOP bracelet in 2008 and an oh-so close 23rd in the Main Event this year, made it all the way to heads-up in the Second Chance. He is quite a beast on the live scene, as he approaches the $1,000,000 earning mark. Online, he is a bit more quiet, as a $20,650 score in the Super Tuesday was his best score. He changed all that and then some this week, taking 2nd place and $35,613 in prize money. His opponent, “mariocasPT”, took home his first five-figure score on Stars, just five bucks shy of $49,000:

FullTilt appears to have done what PokerStars has not, increase the guarantee in one of their Sunday majors. The Sunday Brawl, formerly a $350,000 guarantee, has been bumped to $400,000. Even with the increase in the guarantee, the tournament gained enough entries to nearly reach $500,000 this weekend. Twenty-three FullTilt sponsored professionals played in the event including Vivek Rajkumar, WSOP Main Event winner Huck Seed, and Isaac “Menlo” Baron. “pocketrockets11″ was the biggest name making the final table, and he ended up busting in 3rd for nearly $48k. This was the biggest score of his career by $400, barely eclipsing a 6th place finish in FTOPS Event #9 last year.

FullTilt Sunday Brawl $400k Guaranteed
9. KJulius10 $5,875.20

What the Brawl lacked in final-table firepower, the $750 more than made up for. Three well-known players were on hand, including “Kirbynator”, “Scary_Tiger”, and “jordankickz”. Jordankickz is no stranger to final-table success, as he earned over $163,000 for his runner-up finish in FTOPS Event #17 this past February. “Scary_Tiger” shipped the Double Deuce on FullTilt in May for nearly $32,000 and also final-tabled the Brawl last year, ultimately finishing in 6th place for just under $16,000. Both would end up taking a back seat to Kirbynator, as he shipped his first major title, and over $145,000. He is not a big tournament grinder, as he makes the majority of his money playing high-stakes PLO.

Another Sunday, another huge day of tournaments on PokerStars and FullTilt. Both sites had successful days, as every tournament was able to reach its guarantee, a great sign for the future. FTR would be remiss not to mention a smaller event, won by former FTR writer, David “Dthorne04″ Thorne, for a few pennies shy of $16,000. Perhaps even more impressive, he was able to own PokerStars sponsored pro Gavin Griffin heads-up, battling for quite some time before taking home the title. Congratulations to Dave on his success!

The first event of the day on PokerStars was the Sunday Warm-Up, a $215 tournament which has consistently generated the day’s 2nd largest prize pool for some time now, overtaking the $750k on FullTilt. Those opening the final table may have thought they stumbled across a high-stakes cash game, as three players, “brianm15″, “supa4real”, and Tom “kingsofcards” Marchese, all made deep runs. Marchese is definitely the more notable of the three, as he is a fixture in both PokerStars and FullTilt’s High Stakes games, playing all the way up to $500/$1000 blinds against the likes of Tom durrrr Dwan, Phil Ivey, and Patrik Antonius.

A bit of drama was taken out of the final table, as the final four players decided to chop the remaining prize pool, leaving only $10,000 to be played for. At the time of the chop brianm15 was way behind in chips; however, he mounted a furious comeback, taking down the win, and $85,000.

The Sunday Million was able to squeak past its guarantee once again, as 7,856 players created by far and away the biggest prize pool of the day.
There were plenty of big names to be found at the Sunday500 final table yesterday. Headlining a solid group were Anthony “holdplz” Spinella and “HITTHEPANDA”, two solid players ranked just outside the top-50 online tournament professionals. Spinella has had some previous success in the $500k, finishing 5th for $25,000 in May. He also has a win in FullTilt’s biggest Sunday re-buy event, the $200k gtd., for $88,714. HITTHEPANDA nearly shipped the $750k on FullTilt in July, taking 2nd for $94,093, and has had numerous success in re-buy events, including a victory in the $109r on PokerStars. Joining them was another top-100 ranked pro, Tom “hitthehole” Middleton, who took 2nd in the $500k this week. The $64k cash was the biggest of his career, crushing a $23,000 cash on Titan Poker for winning their Friday $100k Guaranteed. In the end it was lesser-known “McMang” taking home the title, the biggest of his career, eclipsing a win back in 2004 in a Sunday Major on Stars.

Unfortunately a few of the bigger names making the $215r final table were unable to mount much of a charge. Chris “herdgolf86″ Tipper and Joe “ender555″ Ebanks, two well known professionals, finished in 6th and 8th place respectively. Tipper took home just under $8,000 for his efforts, way behind his biggest score, a $102,663 win in the Super Sunday on FullTilt in February. Ebanks, currently ranked 11th in the world by a major tournament site, has shipped the $109r on Stars and nearly won the $500k in August, taking 3rd for $48,000. Runner-up this week, “MaltLiquor40″, has won the $109r numerous times and has over $500,000 in earnings on PokerStars alone. Eventual champion “MSUJenny” has had some past success on Stars, taking 2nd in the $109r in July for just under $18,000.

Wrapping-up a big day of events on PokerStars was the Sunday Second Chance. The $200,000 guaranteed event gives all tournament grinders one last shot at glory and a big Sunday pay-day. Taking full advantage of this opportunity was “SFisch4″ and “hotstuff38″. SFisch4 seemed to be the more experienced of the two, as he/she has had quite a large amount of success on PokerStars, shipping the Quarter Million in June as well as the $109r last year. Hotstuff38 has seen a lot of success at lower stakes, and with this 2nd place finish nearly reached the $500,000 in winnings on PokerStars. The final hand was a bit eventful, as SFisch4’s AQ outran AK for the title:

FullTilt had another solid day of Sunday Majors, including a bit of a boost to their $750k, as they raised the buy-in (from $216 to $530) and the guarantee (from $750k to $1M) making it the 2nd biggest event of the day. The Brawl continues to roll on, as it was able to amass another $500,000+ prize pool, with 2,606 entrants. In fact, with the bigger $750k buy-in, the Brawl was the biggest major event on FullTilt entries-wise. Over 20 FullTilt sponsored professionals played in the Brawl including Mike “Timex” McDonald, Lee Watkinson, and Marco Liesy. Chad “M8kingmoves” Bautista made the final table but busted early, taking 6th (as jse81) for just under $18,000. The well-known, albeit controversial, poker pro is an online force, having six $20k+ scores to his name including a win in the $200k re-buy on FullTilt in February for nearly $85,000.

For the first time in a while a FullTilt Professional won a Sunday Major. Vivek Rajkuamr, winner of the WPT Bograta Open for $1,424,500, was able to take down the $1M post-chop for $180,000. Other big names making deep runs were Brian “Stinger88″ Hastings who finished in 77th and Michael Craig who took 52nd. This was by far and away Rajkumar’s biggest online score, crushing his $18,188 cash for winning the $65k last December.

Rounding out another nice day of tournament action on FullTilt was the appropriately named Sunday Mulligan. Matthew “all in at 420″ Stout made the final table, busting in 7th for just under $8,000. Stout is a well-known professional most recognizable for his victories in the $500k, Second Chance, and $215r on PokerStars. He also won the $1k Monday on FullTilt last week for $85,750. A true sign that some online sites rankings are a bit off, he is not even considered a top-100 tournament professional!
