Tom Dwan, aka durrrr, born on July 30th 1986 in Edison, New Jersey, is one of today’s most feared online poker players. He's a regular in online poker's biggest games at Full Tilt, routinely winning (and losing) millions in any particular day. Dwan has also appeared on numerous televised cash games, such as GSN's High Stakes Poker and Full Tilt Poker's Million Dollar cash Game. In the former he was involved in a single pot with Barry Greenstein which was worth over $950,000, in the latter he took on Patrick Antonius in an epic heads-up match which would prepare us for more to come.

Dwan started his online poker adventure in the most innocent manner possible. He deposited $50 when he was 17 years old, in 2004, and focused initially on the $6.50 SNG's. It did not take long for his bankroll to explode. His chosen screenname, the now famous (or infamous, depending on who you ask) "durrrr" was chosen with as goal to tilt people he stacks.

He moved through the limits like a shooting star. Seeing how much money he was making online and that he could make a decent living out of this poker things, Dwan dropped out of an engineering major at Boston University to play poker full time. Before you could blink, he was playing $40/80 limit, then $5/10 NL, then $25/50, 50/100, all the way up to where he is now at, $500/1000 NL with the biggest names in the business, such as Phil Ivey, David Benyamine and Patrick Antonius. Despite playing in the most shark-infested waters in the world, Dwan has won upwards of $7M in 2008 alone.

Dwan has also been in the news recently because he likes to flaunt his skills. In January of 2009 Dwan issued a $1,000,000 challenge to play online anybody heads up for 50K hands 4-tabling 200/400 or higher No Limit Hold’em or Pot Limit Omaha with a unique prop-betting twist: both players would wager an additional $500,000 on the match. If Dwan's opponent is ahead, even for just a single dolar, after having played the 50K hands, Dwan would agree to match the opponent's $500,000 and give him an additional $1,000,000. This challenge was apparently open to anyone in the world except Phil Galfond. Phil Ivey and David Benyamine have reportedly stated that they are willing to accept the challenge. But, as of today, the only one who has really accepted the challenge is Patrick Antonius, and play is underway. Tom Dwan, regarding his challengers, was quoted as saying "I think all of them actually are better over-all poker players than me ... by quite a bit; I happen to think in this one area, I might have a little edge ... and we'll see if I do."

Dwan is not only just an accomplished cash game player, but he has also done well in numerous live tournaments. As of 2009, he has won almost $1,000,000 from tournament winnings alone. His first live cash was in 19 September of 2005, finishing 12th in the EPT's Main Event held in London. His finish earned him £7,000 ($12,398) for the £3,000 buy-in event. This is already life-changing money to some, but obviously not to him. Dwan also cashed in the WPT's 2007 World Poker Finals $9,700 No Limit Hold'em Championship Event, finishing in 4th place and earning him a cool $324,244 for his participation. Dwan was also a runner up to James Michael Sowers in the 2008 WPT Borgata open earning him a nice $226,100.

Tom “durrrr” Dwan is not just a feared young online poker player, but also an accomplished live tournament player. Nike should come up with a slogan “Be Like Dwan!”.
