The El Dorado is my favorite club to
play at in Reno. The poker room
recently became smoke free (prior to
December 2006, they allowed smoking on
the graveyard shift, 2am-10am). The
dealers are generally very friendly
(particularly if you look like you know
what you are doing) and enforce the
rules. There is a free coffee bar and
the cocktail service generally comes by
the tables every 20 minutes or so (I
believe that there may be a dedicated
cocktail waitress for the poker room on
busy nights). One of the best thing
about playing in Reno is free drinks.
Being in the main downtown Reno casino
complex, there is plenty to do other
than play poker, if you need a break
from the game. Getting up to play some
craps, blackjack, or people watching is
always fun.
The wait lists are generally short, as
the brush will open a new game once the
list allows. Don't expect a huge crowd
other than weekend nights, however.
There are 12 tables, and on a weekend
night two will be a lower buyin NLHE,
and one will be the big game. The rest
will be low limit HE and maybe a 7-card
H/L split Stud. Contrary to the main
review, the El Dorado now has a lower
buyin ($100-$300) NLHE game with $1/$2
blinds. The big game is still there,
and if you sit at the table remember
that cash does play. They have a list
for Omaha, but I have never seen it go.
The rake structure is interesting, it is
10% of the pot up to a maximum of $4,
with a $1 jackpot drop. The jackpot is
in effect at the lower buyin NLHE, but
not at the big game, iirc.
I typically play the lower buyin NLHE,
and generally the table has a few
fish/tourists, with the rest being
either dealers or older nits that could
be classified as "pro." Everyone is
generally friendly. |
