Western Union Review
Western Union is one of the leading and most well-known money-transferring services in existence today. They are best-known for transferring money between families and friends in times of need. What is less-known is their consumer-to-business, money order, and prepaid card services. They are recognized worldwide in more than 200 countries and territories and work through a network of over 345,000 agent locations. They are located in the United States, in the state of Colorado.
Western Union has been around since 1851, but they didn't start handling payment transactions until the mid 1980s. They then became live on the Internet in the late 1990s as one of the first online payment processors. In 2006 they handled more than 147 million customer transfers and 249 million business transfers.
In order to deposit with Western Union, you have a few different options. You can visit a location in your local town that supports Western Union transactions and pay by cash, check, or money order. Or you can send money online via credit card or directly from your bank account. However, it usually isn't instant and takes up to 3 business days to clear. Fees vary by country, and the location you are sending to. However, they can be quite high. For example, if I were to send $100 from Michigan to another person in the US, I would be charged $20 in fees.
It is best to check with your poker site of choice before deciding to use Wester Union to pay your poker expenses and transfers. Some poker players find it to be a hassle to use Western Union, as there are quicker and easier ways to deposit and withdrawal funds. |
