Poker Chip Tricks & Dutch Boyd Videos Performing Poker Chip Tricks
Poker Chip Tricks
I know that this site is really dedicated to online play. But the online game has started to
turn me on to playing in brick and mortar casinos and hosting home games! I obviously prefer to play online when it
comes to making money vs. a brick and mortar casino.
Online poker is more comfortable, I can take a break whenever I want, the rake is less, I don't have to drive anywhere, etc.
(the list goes on and on...)
But playing in a brick and mortar casino is still fun,
and I'll rarely pass up the opportunity to hit up one of the local Los Angeles casinos
or pick up some poker action in Vegas with my friends. And that's when poker chip tricks come into
play.
Poker chip tricks are fun and look cool, but there are legitimate reasons for performing
these poker chip tricks when at a brick and mortar casino or even a home game.
First off, poker chip tricks, when done adeptly,
show your opponents that you have been around poker chips for a long time. They will see
you twirling these chips around while looking at the clock, checking out the casino foor,
and they will think that you've been playing poker all your life. So what's the benefit of
that? Respect. As experienced poker players, we know how important it is to gain respect
at the table. If you have your opponents folding to your bets, particularly your semi-bluffs or stone cold bluffs,
you will be making substantially more money during your session.
Poker chip tricks can initimidate your opponents. Imagine your opponent looking at his chips deciding whether
to bet or not and glancing up at you, and you're staring him down while twirling chips in your hands.
Any intimidation will help your game. I bust out
my arsenal of chip tricks every time I take a seat at the poker table, whether it's a home game or at
a card club. I even practice poker chip tricks when playing online, in front of my computer!
Another reason for performing poker chip tricks is to help maintain patience, discipline, and relaxation.
A large part of the game of poker is waiting for your time to strike. You always have to maintain
discipline and patience, waiting for the right cards to make your move. You must also prevent
yourself from going on tilt after a bad beat. Poker chip tricks can help with this. When you're folding your junk
hands, what better way to pass the time than with poker chip tricks! And for me, performing poker chip tricks
is a distraction from the stresses of the game, which tends to keep me calm and relaxed.
In the brick and mortar casinos, poker tells become a part of the game. Some opponents may be watching you for
tells, and performing chip tricks will keep you occupied so you're not squirming under their pressure. You can
also be watching others as you perform these chip tricks, keeping one eye on the opponent while you pretend
to fascinate yourself with your own skills!

Dutch Boyd Videos - Dutch Boyd Performing Poker Chip Tricks
Ok, so for those of you who have seen the 2003 World Series of Poker (which is probably all of you!),
then you probably remember Dutch Boyd. Dutch finished 12th overall in the World Series of Poker, and received
extensive coverage from ESPN. Dutch Boyd was studying law at the University of Missouri-Columbia at age 15
and received his law degree at age 18, but never seriously pursued law, and
turned his attention towards poker. He made a big splash in the poker world in the 2003 World Series of Poker.
He was not well known at the beginning of the event, but quickly became known as he climbed the ranks to finish in 12th place, taking a nice
cashout of $80,000 with him. Dutch Boyd finally lost to Sam Farha, where Boyd made a pair of Queens on the flop, and Sam Farha
made a pair of Aces.
Courtesy of ESPN, we have footage of Dutch Boyd during the 2003 World Series of Poker, where he demonstrates
