Nenad Medic
This Serbian born, Canadian National, dreamt of becoming a basketball player when young. And he was well on his way to fulfilling this dream when he discovered that talent scouts weren’t going to come this far where he lived. His 6’5” frame was definitely a booster but he played only with the University of Waterloo. Soon he discovered his love and flair for playing poker also while playing a friendly hand with some friends.
He learnt the game well soon after graduation and started playing online, for chips. Honing his skills he was getting himself ready for the real poker world. He was hitting the poker field with something that he had got from basketball, the fighting and winning mentality. Soon Nenad realised that Canada was not the place for some physical poker and travelled to the Caribbean for his first World Poker tour tryst in 2005. This was the WPT’s Caribbean Adventure. Here he made the final table and came in sixth with a fat money kitty of over $100,000.
This was the stage that a talent like Nenad needed. Now the poker world knew that a new star was born. Soon thereafter, he showed his class in January 2006 at the Aussie Millions where he made the final table again and finished third amongst big names like Lee Nelson, Shannon Shorr and Mark Vos.
In only his second WPT performance in 2006, he stunned everyone by winning the final table at Foxwoods. He claimed this victory after making his way through majors like Mimi Tran and Kathy Liebert and making himself richer by $1.7 Million. Very good for somebody who was only 23 years old.
He continued his cashing-in streaks at the WPT thereafter and made three more final tables. In 2007 he came in third in the $9,700 No Limit Hold’em at the WPT at Mashantucket taking home $486,387. And finally in 2008 came the big victory. His first World Series of Poker bracelet when he won the $10,000 buy-in World Championship Pot-Limit Hold’em tournament winning nearly $795,000. Nenad had won this by defeating a record field of players and in the race had taken one of the highest payouts for a pot limit game. This table had included Mike Sexton and Kathy Liebert, plus Andy Bloch, Phil Laak, all of whom were mere spectators in the end.
At one stage, Mike sexton even commented in the game that Nenad was one of the toughest No limit Hold’em players he’d ever seen. Coming from Mike, it was a compliment for this young Canadian player. Nenad continues his high profile poker career and prefers to play the cash games. He now plays online for Full Tilt and is seemingly doing very well.
Nenad plays online under the name Serb2127 and has enjoyed success that the youth only dream of. He is a tournament lover, and describes his poker ambition as, “I want to be known as a really good poker player that knows what he’s doing. Some of the players in the past have been known for their poker and people think that they’re lucky, but I want to be known as a good solid player.” And he surely is known as a threat and a great player currently.
This burly player has shown consistency like no other. The best players just keep coming at the final tables, tournament after tournament. This is being reflected in Nenad’s case so well. He just keeps showing up in the finals and amongst the cash at the WSOP and the WPT year after year. In a short span of only 3 years, he has rounded up winnings of more than $3,600,000. This is the mark of a true winning poker pro.
