Michael Mizrachi
Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi has made his name in the poker world with a very impressive track record. In addition to taking down two World Poker Tour events and one World Series of Poker event, Mizrachi made the 2010 WSOP November Nine, earning him a lot of attention. Adding to this fame, he has also appeared on television shows such as GSN's High Stakes Poker. There can be no question that The Grinder has earned his well-deserved reputation.
Growing up in Miami, Florida, Mizrachi started playing poker with his family at a very young age. Today, his three brothers are very well-established players in their own right, and Michael owes much to his older brother Robert who was the first of the four to start taking poker seriously and turn pro. Although Michael at first thought of poker as merely a hobby, this attitude changed and he eventually dropped out of college to also pursue a poker career.
The young pro started out playing limit tournaments online, and quickly rose through the stakes. Although he is nowadays best known for his live poker skill, he attributes much of his success to the large range of situations he came across online. "I think my experience on the Internet helped my game because I played so many hands of poker. And when I play live, I pick up tells. I have great reads on people and I follow my instincts." Online Limit Holdem did not remain his only area of expertise for long, and in 2005 he made a big splash in live poker.
At the 2005 World Poker Tour he took down the L.A. Poker Classic, having finished 5th in another event just weeks before. As if that wasn't enough he went on to finish 11th in the WPT Championship and to meet the record of seven cashes at that year's World Series of Poker. The following year, the now-feared tournament player showed no signs of slowing down, winning the WPT Borgata Winter Open and appearing on GSN's High Stakes Poker, playing in a cash game overflowing with talented players and big names.
In the 2010 World Series of Poker, Michael Mizrachi once again showed he was a player to be reckoned with. He made the money in five separate events, including outlasting the entire field and taking down the title of the $50,000 WSOP Players Championship. Following this outstanding performance he went on to have an amazing run in the Main Event, eventually making the final table and adding even more weight to his already solid reputation.
There is no doubt that The Grinder has already proven himself numerous times to the poker world, but we can nonetheless except to hear much more from him in the future. Mizrachi shows no signs of letting up and is sure to keep on grinding for years to come.
