Marco Traniello
If you would have asked Marco Traniello what he would be doing in 5 years ago, poker wouldn’t have even been a thought. But due to some dumb luck and a parking lot, it became his career.
While he was visiting the United States on vacation from Italy, he wanted to check out the gambling city known as Las Vegas. While pulling up to the Mirage Hotel and Casino, he parked his car next to well known professional player, Jennifer Harman. She was getting into her car after a bad $50,000 losing session, but he still talked her into going dancing.
Marco was a well known hairdresser when first hooking up with Jennifer, but it didn’t take long for her career to rub off on him. They would host games at their home with players such as Erich Lindgren and Daniel Negreanu, which greatly helped develop Marco’s play. With such great players playing with him on a regular basis, he was a very fast bloomer.
In 2005, he entered his very first WSOP. To say it was a good first run would be an understatement. He set a record for the most cashes in one year, at 7. He made one final table and three top 20 finishes. 2006 and 2007 were also kind to Marco with 7 more cashes and 3 more final tables. He has yet to win a bracelet like his wife Jennifer, but he keeps getting closer each year.
One of the reasons Marco learned so quickly was his instincts to read people. He also learned from the top pros to change gears, and can whenever he feels necessary:
Talking over hands and playing with the pros helped Marco hone a style that is both unique and dangerous on the table. Putting him on a hand is difficult as he can change styles on a dime. He is next to impossible to read. All emotion is pushed aside and the only focus is the hand in front of him. He can read others play quickly and seemingly effortlessly.
