Layne Flack was born on May 18th, 1969 in Rapid City, South Dakota, but was raised in Montana. He started playing cards when he was young with his grandparents, but he got really into poker when he was older and started dealing in a casino in Montana. He became so obsessed with the game he would go to another casino after work to play. Even though he was promoted to night manager at his job, he decided to quit because it took too much time away from poker. Although he was also in college studying business (paying his tuition through poker), he dropped out because of how lucrative poker became for him. In his early twenties, Flack was already playing with the professionals.

Huck Seed, a fellow poker pro from Montana, was so impressed with Flack’s game that he encouraged Layne to go to Las Vegas and get on the poker circuit. In 1997, Flack ended up winning the first event he played in Vegas, the Hall of Fame Poker Classic, which nabbed him over sixty five thousand dollars.

It was on the circuit that Flack met Johnny Chan, a famous poker professional, who took Flack under his wing and staked him. Being taught by the best, Flack quickly took his game to the next level. Chan didn’t only mentor him in poker, he mentored him in life. After a night following a huge loss, Johnny told Flack to get some sleep and start again tomorrow. He made it back the next day, which taught Flack he needed to be well rested to play his best game.

Flack is known for his aggressive and crazy playing style as well as his aggressive and crazy lifestyle. Flack used to be known for being drunk at the poker table, but still playing a top notch game. Flack also was known to do various drugs, however, that all changed when fellow professional Daniel Negreneau, a friend and also a backer, saw it as a problem, and paid the $80,000 fee to pay for his rehab in 2004. Flack is now sober.

In his spare time Flack likes to play golf and bowl. It’s rumored that at one time Flack bowled a perfect game, and considered becoming a professional bowler instead. It's good he didn't; Flack now is a well known pro, amassing over 3.5 million dollars in live tournament winnings, most of it between 1999 and 2005, where Flack won around 2.5 million. He has won five WSOP bracelets, One in 98', 2000, and 2001 in No and Pot Limit Hold'em, and two in 2003 in Omaha 8 or better and Limit Hold'em. He is one of few players to win at least five brecelets, something greats such as T.J. Cloutier can’t even say they accomplished.
