Karina Jett
Did you know that Karina Jett who is currently a professional poker player actually participated in the Miss World Nevada Pageant and won her the title of Miss Photogenic? Well you might now have, but she is truly a stunner not only in looks but also at poker. Karina Jett was born in Saigon Vietnam on 16 August 1974 to mixed parents of American-Greek and Vietnamese lineage who were crazy about playing poker.
Her father was serving in the U.S. Air Force as a colonel and was an avid 7 card stud player. Her mother too was poker crazy and used to play the game with many winning streaks. This poker crazy family shifted to Nevada when her father got a transfer. Karina’s parents who are ardent poker players were her first tutors in the game. They ably guided and molded her in the art of winning at poker games at numerous card rooms in casinos at Las Vegas. With poker being in her blood it is not a wonder that she has turned out to be a winning professional player at the game.
Their close proximity to Las Vegas helped them to hone their skills in the game while they made it a point to take their daughter along with them to the card rooms of various casinos. Watching her parents play helped Karina to master her play. Boredom at the casinos soon forced her to play the game and she discovered that she could make winnings and this prompted her to sharpen her skills at the game under the able guidance of her parents.
A drop out of college, Karina’s involvement in her mother’s jewelery business and Chinese restaurant further proved that she was destined to make it big in Poker. It was while she was assisting her mother that she became acquainted with many poker players who helped her turn into a professional. It was in 1996 that Karina Jett actually took to being a professional player, now very confident that she could win huge money.
She began playing 7 Card Stud and with the help of her cousin, Tan Le, soon mastered the nuances of Texas Hold’em. She started her winning sessions with local tournaments before she actually began playing worldwide. She has won in the Late Night Poker Game in 2001, L.A. Poker Classic and Four Queens Poker Classic in 2002. Her best showing at WSOP has been coming in 4th at the Ladies event in $1K Limit Hold’em in 2004 and 2003. In 2003 she was also fourth in the 7 card stud. She also got a third spot in the Legends of Poker WPT Season 4 in the Ladies No Limit Hold’em in 2005.
It was during a tournament in Mississippi that she met her husband, Chip Jett, who was also a professional poker player. They are the proud parents of two lovely children who are also being groomed right from an early age to play poker. Athena, their daughter was born in 2003 when Karina went into labor while she was the chips leader at the Four Queens Poker Classic in Las Vegas. Even after being the mother of two small children, Karina shows no signs of slowing her poker career and seems to show her expertise in every game she tries her hand at.
These two pros have started writing columns about poker in different magazines and have their own merchandise company called Jett Poker Inc. They are also instructors at WPT Boot Camp where they conduct lessons for those aspiring to be world champions n the game. Karina will also appear in a Poker movie by the name of Lucky you. She has previously made appearances on Late Night Poker’s fourth season.
