JJ Liu
Joanne Jishun Liu, who is more commonly known as the poker player JJ Liu, was born and raised in Taiwan. If you want to find a successful woman in a man’s world, this woman rises above any expectations you have and will outshine all of her competition. She is best known for her sharp game, but many people also recognize her for her famous wit and fashion sense.
Having grown up in Taiwan, Joanne Jishun Liu only know a little of Chinese gambling games. However, from only that experience to account for her talent, a bit of a surprise came when she sat down at the Bay 101 Casino to play Texas hold’em in her first tournament and only a few months later was finishing in fourth place in the World Series of Poker event.
Joanne Jishun Liu moved to the United Stated of America to further her studies but ended up earning a masters degree in computer science. She graduated from her degree while living in Peoria, Illinois and started working in California for Space systems/Loral. Space systems are one of the world’s top builders and designers of satellites used for communication.
Joanne Jishun Liu is not only extremely talented at poker, and the highest placing female in a World Poker Tour Championship, but is also very intelligent and very talented at playing the piano. This woman has many talents, and will no doubt have a place in history as a female poker player. Her winnings are currently placed at over one million and seven hundred thousand dollars, giving her the 5th rank of female player’s live tournament winnings. She has won cash prizes in over forty well-known tournaments around the world. She also continues to amaze her fans by balancing her poker playing life, traveling, and taking care of her three children. In 2007 at the WSOP, she was even pregnant while attending; a woman who shows up to a tournament ready to win while six months pregnant is serious about poker. Her humor shows through even while in this situation when she answers while being interviewed laughing and saying, “Well, the baby is kicking a lot.” Although many parents would say that anything having to do with poker is a bad example for their child, after finding out more about this woman, they would realize what an amazing role model she could be for young woman everywhere.
With her contagious laughter, Joanne Jishun Liu will make you smile and amaze you as she laughs during an interview saying, “I still have another three months left ‘til the due date.” Explaining that she can continue to play, and proving to the world that not only can woman play but that she as a woman can do just about anything. Although JJ Liu says that her skill at playing poker is derived from her studying The Art of War by Sun Tzu, it is obvious that this woman has a great deal of talent and intelligence. Watch out poker players if you are going against JJ Liu, you have a rough game ahead of you.
