Huckleberry Seed
A huckleberry is a small fruit generally edible and eaten by bears. Huckleberry Hound was a cartoon about a good natured, but dim witted dog. Huckleberry Finn was an a boy full of adventure and mischief.
What do they all have in common? None of them say anything about Huckleberry Seed.
Six foot seven inch Huckleberry Seed grew up in Corvallis, Montana. Seed was from an athletic family; given size and athleticism, Seed was great at basketball. When it was time for college, Seed decided to go to California Institute of Technology to pursue a career in engineering. However, somewhere along the way Seed found poker, which motivated him to take a leave of absence from school in 1989, around the time he turned 21. He never went back.
Seed did very well early on. In 1990 he played in his first World Series of Poker, where he ended up placing 4th in the Limit Event and the Seven Card Stud Event. Seed was living very comfortably as a poker player. In 1994, Seed won his first WSOP bracelet in the Pot Limit Omaha event, scoring him almost a quarter of a million dollars. And then there was 1996, where Seed joined the elite. He won the big one; the 1996 WSOP Main Event, winning one million dollars, and a place amongst the greats. Recently, Seed beat Patrik Antonius at the Heads Up Poker Championship; Antonius is considered the best heads up player in the world.
Seed is a quiet guy; his game isn’t. He's known for his aggresive and extravagant play. He mentored a young Montana pro who is now considered among the best in the world, Layne Flack. He keeps his schedule full playing online and at local casinos in Las Vegas.
Seed is known for his extravagant prop betting. His most famous bet was betting Phil Hellmuth fifty thousand dollars that he could float around in the ocean for 18 hours. Unfortunately, Seed lost that bet. He also lost a bet that he would be able to be unshaven for a year (he had to attend a funeral and wanted to look respectable). He had success on the golf course when someone bet him that he couldn’t break 100 five times in one day with only a five iron, sand wedge, and putter, even though it was 120 degrees that day. Even playing five rounds of golf in that weather is a spectacle.
Now you can find Huck on Full Tilt. In the recent FTOP’s Main Event, Seed did the best of all pros, placing 15th. His career earnings are close to 3.5 million dollars.
