Howard Lederer and Gus Hansen are the only players in the world who have 2 World Poker Tour (WPT) Titles. Howard Lederer also has 2 WSOP bracelets, 2 Hall of Fames titles and 3 Bellagio titles. Mike Sexton interviews Howard Lederer in the Volume 15, No. 24 issue of Card Player Magazine. Early on Sexton asks Howard about mistakes:
Mike Sexton: What do you think is the biggest mistake amateurs make?

Howard Lederer: They play too many hands in the beginning and fold too many hands at the end. I also would suggest they not worry so much about their hand and focus on reading their opponent(s).
Even the best pros like Howard Lederer have players they admire:
Mike Sexton: Whom do you admire most as a player, in both tournaments and cash games?

Howard Lederer: Erik Seidel in tournaments and Chip Reese in cash games.
Mike Sexton does host the World Poker Tour after all. Sooner or later the interview has to focus on the WPT:
Mike Sexton: You play mostly cash games, but have decided to follow and play the World Poker Tour events. What do you see for the future of tournaments and the WPT?

Howard Lederer: I believe tournaments will grow and that the WPT could enhance poker tremendously. I am hopeful that they will get a little more organized. By that I mean, coordinate the schedule and conform on structures. The WPT events are special and should be treated as such, and always should provide a good amount of playing time.

Mike Sexton: More playing time will allow the cream to rise to the top. Is this better than having amateurs do well in WPT events?

Howard Lederer: Longer formats will enable more top pros to reach the final table on a more consistent basis. Creating 'stars' is critical to the success of any sport or game, and that includes the WPT. This will also result in better play and better analysis for the viewing audience.

Mike Sexton: Speaking of the WPT, what are your feelings about exposing your holecards for the world to see?

Howard Lederer: I think it's critical to the success of the WPT. I agree with what you said during a WPT broadcast: "Seeing the holecards will create three 'E's' for the audience - excitement, entertainment, and education." Personally, I'm not concerned about players seeing my holecards.
Full Tilt has done an excellent job getting so many top pros behind them. Like many pros, Lederer plays online exclusively at Full Tilt. Newer than more established online sites like Party Poker, Full Tilt is really starting to build momentum. As the list of pros at Full Tilt continues to grow it becomes more obvious that they must be doing something right. Here is what Full Tilt says on the Howard Lederer page:
My name is Howard Lederer and I play online poker exclusively at Full Tilt Poker.

If you want to learn more about my poker career, keep reading...

At eighteen, I deferred college for a year and moved to New York to pursue my passion for chess. I instead discovered a poker game in the back room of the chess club. I was immediately hooked. For two years, I played poker relentlessly -- seventy to eighty hours a week -- and went home broke nine nights out of ten.

Luckily, I found the Mayfair Club and became part of a group of players who were the first to experiment with no-limit hold 'em in New York. We'd start at 4 PM and wind down by 2 AM, then go to a bar for a lively discussion of the day's game. We were all new to the game, but the ideas flowed freely and our games improved dramatically.

In order to take my game to the next level, I moved to Las Vegas in 1993. I concentrated on cash games until 2002, when WPT tournaments became a monthly event.

I've got two WSOP bracelets, 2 WPT titles, 2 Hall of Fames titles and 3 Bellagio titles.

When I'm not playing in a tournament, I'm occasionally doing commentary and analysis. This has helped cement my nickname, "The Professor." I also run a Poker Fantasy Camp where people can play with and learn from the best in the game -- just like you can when you play on Full TiltPoker.com
Howard Lederer and his sister Annie Duke are a class act. Branching out into commentary was a great move for Lederer, his experience as a player keeps his analysis balanced.
