Eli Elezra
Eli Elezra, born November 24, 1960 in Jerusalem, is one of the regulars of the highest stakes cash games you can find anywhere.
Elezra was at one time a marine in the Israeli Army. One could argue that the ruthless and rigorous army training toughened him up considerably, which would be great for his poker skills. An injury left him confined to his bed with a leg injury, and also discharged from the military, at which time he started to play poker to pass the time and also on other forms of gambling.
He liked it.
Eli Elezra afterwards moved to America, the land of opportunities. He then kept playing poker while in Alaska working as a cab driver, and later bought a convenience store. Things started to flourish for him afterwards, and by keen use of his business eye Elezra became a very profitable investor, amassing quite a bit of personal wealth in the process; this also means he has built himself quite a bit of a bankroll for poker.
Elezra's game was well suited for live cash games, and soon he started to make a killing in most every game he played. He was playing with the greats, in the now famous Big Game at Bobby's Room in the Bellagio before long, where the highest stakes cash games in the world take place. Elezra has been a regular in this game for many years, which in and of itself is saying something.
Eli Elezra has also a fair bit of tournament play under his belt. He won the WPT Mirage Poker Showdown in 2004, a $10,000 but-in event that awarded him a cool $1,024,574. He is also in possession of a bracelet, which he won in 2007 in the Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo event, after defeating Scotty Nguyen heads up. Eli Elezra has had a total of 16 cashes at the WSOP, and as of 2008, has won more than $1,600,000 from his live tourney play alone.
Elezra is also in the select group of Full Tilt Poker Red's, and even has his own High Stakes H.O.R.S.E. table on the site. Aside from owning souls in the Big Game, Elezra is also a regular in the GSN's High Stakes Poker show, and has also appeared in numerous episodes of Poker After Dark. In the televised games, he can be seen smelling roses some of the time, and offering fellow players roses.
Eli Elezra is the consummate businessman/pro hybrid and a very good natured man also. It is a pleasure playing with him.
