Eddy was born in Cologne, Germany. Although he was introduced to poker at an early age, he had the impression that poker is totally a luck based game. It's not surprising then that he went to a pilot school in Arizona, USA to train to be a professional pilot. It was only by 1995 that he started playing professionally owing to the change of outlook because of weekend holiday trips to Las Vegas.

He read many poker books and played as much as possible especially when he was in USA. He still maintains his job as a pilot with Lufthansa Airlines. Although his career started late his talent for the game catapulted him to stardom. It also took some time to take off as he wanted to give as much time to his family and to his aviation career. He could manage to play poker only when he flew to the USA as a pilot.

Since his career started in 1995 he has won two bracelets in a span of two years. He won his first bracelet at the World Poker Series in 2001 & later in 2003. Both coming in the Limit Omaha game. By this time poker's popularity had started increasing in Europe also and his career saw a massive swing towards poker. He could play around his hometown also now instead of waiting to travel to USA for it.

In 2004, Scharf finished 15th at the WSOP World Championship No limit Hold`em Tournament. In 2005 he finished 7th at the WSOP Pot- Limit Ohama event. Eddy was placed 3rd at the Master Classics of poker limit Hold`em event held in 2006. He cashed in at the Pot Limit event also at the same Tournament. He also cashed in at the PokerWorthersee Trophy and the Veldon Masters No limit Tournament. In all he has about 30 cashes.

He finished 17th at the WSOP Pot Limit Omaha World Champions held in June 2008. He finished 22nd at the same series, event 46. He finished first at the CAPT Bregenz Open. He was 24th at the 2008 Crown Aussie Millions Championship and appeared at the Party Poker late Night Poker & finished 6th. He secured 7th & 9th positions at the Master Classic of Poker held at Nov 6th & Nov 3rd 2006 respectively.

He finished 18th at the Annual World Series of Poker held in April 2002 and also came in 5th at the Harrah Rincon Poker Tournament held in 2004.

He loves playing Stud (Cash) & No limit Hold’em Poker. His favorite movie is American beauty. This German player also likes to listen to Yello. Since he has won both his bracelets in Omaha he know aspires to win another in a No limit Hold’em event. He respects other Poker Players like Mickey Finn, Christoph Walters and Hans Pfister.

He mostly plays in Europe but visits USA for tournaments. He lives in cologne, Germany with his wife and two kids. When not playing poker, Eddy likes to play golf in his free time.

He also has some strong opinions of the schooling system for kids and for cross cultural interaction. Highly respected as Germany’s top poker player, he is a regular commentator at the German Sports TV. Currently he plays online for Full Tilt. His live winnings exceed $1,100,000.
