Professional Poker Players and Celebrities |
David Grey
Grey is a professional poker player from Nevada that is best known as a cash game player. But he also has notable tournament wins in his name; he won two World Series of Poker bracelets. The first one was in 1999 for a seven-card stud tournament which earned him $199,000 and the second one in 2005 for a No Limit 2 to 7 Draw Lowball for $365,135.
To date, Grey has a total of tournament winnings of $1,400,000 and he is still seen as a formidable opponent on the felt. Grey also appeared in Poker Superstars Invitational Tournament and Poker After Dark where he took second place to Daniel Negreanu.
Like many poker players, Grey did not plan on being a poker player fulltime. He grew up in New York’s Long Island and spent a lot of his time in the race track and earned his living by being a horse handicapper in his early years. When there are no races to tend, he played poker to pass his time and soon became an expert in 7-Card Stud. He played poker because he loved the game and not because it earned him a lot of money. Though he had a lot of potential, he never entertained the fact that this could be his career. But I guess the game had a whole different plan for him.
Grey packed his bags and decided to transfer to Las Vegas in 1984 for a new life and a new adventure. He was planning on finding a race track and bet on the horses like what he did before. But Vegas have a lot of poker action happening nearby that it was hard for Grey not to go back to 7-Card Stud. He was passionate about it and made the game his job rather than just for entertainment. Though 7-Card Stud is the first game that he mastered, he soon learned other forms of poker and excelled in those games as well.
Grey is known for his cash game skills but he often plays tournament games also. However, he rarely gets out of Vegas to play around the world so the only tournaments he enters are those that are held in his area. It’s not because he does not like to travel, especially when everything is free and all with fringe benefits. It’s just that, with so many casinos outside his neighborhood, he does not see the need for him to go elsewhere just to play the game. So the tournaments that he does play are all in Las Vegas.
He is a hard one to read. You never know what’s on his mind and what he plans on doing next. This make him a very effective poker player; this game frowns on predictability so him spontaneity is a plus factor for him. Grey has no problem folding his card is ever finds himself with a dead card. Some may see this as playing tight but he believes in waiting for the right moment to start and the perfect card could just be your winning ticket. But if he ever finds himself with a good hand, he will be aggressive and lure you to a poker trap. He will make it very expensive for his opponents – remember that above being a good tournament player, he is first and foremost a great cash game player.
Grey has been a professional high stakes gambler for many years. He has also been playing the “Big Game” at the Bellagio for a long time now. Playing poker has not change his sense of humor over the years; he is known to have a unique sense of humor and a positive outlook. Respected and liked by his friends and the people in the business, a lucrative career is still ahead for this Vegas Stud.
When not playing cash game or tournament, Grey enjoys spending time with his friends and play golf. He also enjoys watching ballgames, but above everything else, he enjoys being with his family the most.
