Dario Minieri (born 1985*) is an Italian professional poker player based in Rome, Italy. He is perhaps best known as being the first person to buy a car using PokerStars VIP Club’s FPPs. Minieri, just like David Williams before him, was a very active Magic: The Gathering player while growing up. It seems like affinity for this card game automatically translates to great poker players as we have seen on countless occasions, another example being David “Deldar182” Eldar. Minieri decided to hold off for a while on his plan to pursue a degree in psychology, instead focusing on making monies playing poker.

Minieri started playing poker online exclusively on PokerStars for the longest of time. He was one of the first SuperNova Elite’s on the site, and was the first one to buy a Porsche Cayman using Frequent Player Points. Minieri is also a regular in the biggest HU NLHE SNG’s on PokerStars.com, paying upwards of $200 rake per single tournament ($5,000 + 200). He was also winner of the first PokerStars high stakes winner-takes-all freezeout. It was a $5,200 buy-in with 20 entrants, with the winner pocketing $100,000. When it got down to HU, it was Minieri vs. Isaac Baron which is also another famous pro. Initially, the two would pause the game to discuss a chop of the prizes, but Baron refused to take his fair share of the pot based on chipcount and instead wanted more. Minieri dominated Haxton 3:1 in chips, and he then refused this deal. Play resumed, and Minieri went on to take the whole $100,000 down.

Minieri made a seamless transition from online play to live play. During the 2007 WSOP Main Event, Minieri played a very aggressive and semi-reckless way and amassed a huge chiplead coming of day 3. But eventually he would finish in 96th place, out of a field of at least 6,500.

Minieri’s first WSOP bracelet would come in 2008. During that year’s WSOP, Minieri won the $2,500 NLHE 6-MAX event, running over a field of a little over 1,000 players. Minieri took $528,418 home for that accomplishment, and of course, the monkey came off his back because he was close to big scores many many times but he could never take it down in the past.

Minieri has also had incredible success in the European Poker Tour. In the “Big Double” Event of 2006 in Baden, Austria, Minieri would place 3rd for over €125,000. In 2008, Minieri would arrive the overwhelming favorite to win the EPT San Remo in Italy, getting to the final table as the overwhelming chipleader. But some things are not meant to be, as Minieri would run bad at the final table and get eliminated in 3rd for €287,600 at the hands of the eventual winner Jason Mercier. Minieri would have another 3rd place finish in the 2008 EPT Warsaw, earning €123,162 for his efforts. But his win in the EPT will come, in time and with patience.

At the tables, Minieri is known to have a calm demeanor and flashy looks; he is also very recognizable for his AS Roma scarf and the big diamond encrusted cross necklace. He has said that he started to use the scarf, because during crucial hands his heart would beat visibly in his neck. The scarf would serve to conceal it.

Minieri has done an admirable job in keeping his personal life private. Outside of his poker accolades, very little is known about him such as his exact date of birth. What is known is that he recently got married to his girlfriend, who, in typical mysterious fashion is an unknown to all but his very closest friends.

Dario Minieri is probably the most aggressive and fearsome player online today. Play versus him on PokerStars.com (Dariominieri) and you would probably experience what I’m talking about. Common misspellings: Dario Mineiri, Dario Meenieri, Dario Minari, Dario Miniery
